Description My part of the trade with
Our common theme was landfish!Β
I wanted to go for an eel type of creature so I guess this is something like it xD

This was super fun to do so I must thank you for the brilliant theme idea ^^

Actually yes, I based this character on one species of mine (named Nuva'zack)
Sadly I have only drawn sketches of these creatures into my sketchbooks...

Fishpersoooooooon!

I like fish-people haha

He's got very special legs. Like they're shorter than human legs, and than he has this massive tail he can use to swim instead. I like that. Seems like you realy thought him through ^^

Ohh someone notices, hehe ^^
Yes, I've actually had this fish species (named Nuva'zack) in my mind for a long time now and thought this was a great time to actually try to draw one properly with computer.
Before I've only made some pencil sketches.

roelifant In reply to OrangeSavannah [2016-03-11 20:43:13 +0000 UTC]

Cool!
Are the Nuva'zack part of the same world as the one your comic takes place in? Or you don't do worldbuilding like that? (just curious)
Always fun to reach deep into your brain and renew an old idea

OrangeSavannah In reply to roelifant [2016-03-11 21:27:22 +0000 UTC]

Nuva'zack (and the other one in this picture, his species name is Hortix) are actually for another story project of mine that I'm planning on writing rather than drawing. And when I say planning, I actually mean I've already written about 300 pages xD
It's going to be a long book series with many different species put together. I haven't decided the series' name yet but basically it's about this one pig planet called Alku (translation: The Beginning) which has a lot more smaller moons circling it. All the species live on these moons and every book tells a story of these different moon dwellers who slowly get to know more about this mysterious planet and it's secrets, and of course, of each other.

Here are some other drawings (and species') related to this project: Ortrun 1 and 2 , Alastair , Shargran and Hortix , Shargran and Tankathri
Man, I could tell you about them all day x'D

roelifant In reply to OrangeSavannah [2016-03-12 09:00:48 +0000 UTC]

Wow congratulations on the 300 pages already Β Sounds like a realy interesting story In what language are you writing it?

I'm an aspiring writer myself, but I'm slow and actually still in the phase of learning how to write properly. I found out drawing helps a great deal to come closer to your written characters and connect more with them. It makes characters, places and scenes more real. And because of that it's easier to write about it or to build the story further. I don't consider myself an artist, but I do manage to fill up a gallery just with doodles from my story characters
Idk just makes me happy to see someone else is also recreating writing in art.

Creatures in these drawings seem interesting, adn very well painted as usual ^^. To be honest I still like the fishperson most of them all tho

Hey I'm not stopping you from talking more about them It would interest me and inspire me so if you would feel like talking about them all day. Go ahead, I'll listen

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OrangeSavannah In reply to roelifant [2016-03-12 18:43:52 +0000 UTC]

I'm writing it in Finnish as I don't trust my English skills enough to express myself properly xD
I might translate the story later to English if I manage to gather up some helping hands. (One of my friends wants to become an English teacher so maybe she'll do just fine in a couple of years! x'D)

As am I! I actually had to rewrite almost the whole story since I didn't like the older version and how it sounded. I still might rewrite lots of bits since it's been half a year the last time I wrote anything to the story.
And gosh I agree, drawing the characters/scenes makes writing a lot of easier I've actually written one book before and illustrated some pictures to it so I could proudly say, everything was done by me! How often can writers say that?!

I'd love to rant about my world and its characters but I'm afraid I don't currently have the time for it
My finals are starting next week and will last until the end of March. And then I have to prepare for the entry exams for my next school. (Those should be fun though because I get to draw ^^)

roelifant In reply to OrangeSavannah [2016-03-18 18:09:52 +0000 UTC]

That I can relate to. I also write in dutch for the same reason

Well you sound like an experienced writer to me I once wrote 90 pages and than stopped because I didn't feel motivated anymore. Later on I tried to write other things but never got very far because I changed interests or I got stuck in my own plot. Recently I realised I need to outline my stories more intsead of just writing brainlessly, to prevent myself from getting stuck. (Last time I put my protagonists in a prison and I completely forgot how exactly they escaped from it and I didn't write it down XD I couldn't continue )

Ooo being able to draw in school is like a dream come true I do some sort of digital design school which involves some programing but also design and so I get to draw now or than It's fun whene I get to draw. Allthough usually I have to draw boring things like websites and interfaces. However I bought myself 2 sketchbooks: one for school and one for me. And I draw more in my own sketchbook :3 My classmates have already given me strange looks whene I was drawing robots in class instead of paying attention XD But I regret nothing. I don't care about computers. I just want to be creative

Good luck with your finals! You can do it! Don't be a terrible procrastinate-and-then-panic-person like me
And get enough sleep ^^
and coffeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

OrangeSavannah In reply to roelifant [2016-03-24 21:24:32 +0000 UTC]

Experienced, well you could say that but nah. I miss writing a lot. I've been so occupied during these last months that I haven't gotten my motivation on writing back yet. Hopefully next summer will do the trick c:

Classmates giving odd looks... that is a very familiar feeling. It's fun to show people my sketchbooks since they start making funny faces when they realize I don't draw pretty girls or nice looking flower patterns. I remember one of my classmates being so amused during history lessons because I always drew something related to the class.
She would ask me: "What on earth are you drawing now? Are you even listening to the teacher?"
"Hey, don't judge! I gotta keep awake somehow on the class!"

Thanks! I got one more exam ahead of me and then I'll be more available to do my own stuff! And I'm the opposite of a panic-person, I actually don't panic enough. Last exam went... well... let's not talk about that. I might have gotten lazy with the studies :''D
Sleep would be nice. Need to practice that.

Blargh coffee ain't good, tea for me please <3

roelifant In reply to OrangeSavannah [2016-03-24 21:52:47 +0000 UTC]

oh big writing pauzes are the worst D: my pauzes are waaaay too long. I often spend months not writing anything. Thats because for me the fun part is inventing the story, but not writing it So I spend 24/7 thinking about my stories but only a few days a year writing. I realy should write more tho.

I invented a language during high school because I was so bored. I made so it was always written vertically so I can write it at the sides of my notes. So I spend my year writing bad poems and jokes and stories on my school work in a gibberish no one understood. My classmates never realy knew how to react whene they saw me scribble my weird codes XD

I wish I was more like you. I always panic and get loads of stress. People say stress is healthy and it helps you work. But it does not for me. It pins me to the ground, makes me hide in my shell. I end up ignoring and denying all the work that I think I can't do, and in the end I don't do anything. It would all be a lot easier if I didn't panic this much
I would love to sleep too

Coffee is disgusting. But it keeps me awake so I drink it. Tea doesn't have that effect on me, I only drink tea when I want to sleep. Me and coffee is a love and hate relationship

(I've been purposely avoiding to answer this comment because I wanted to clear all my exams first. Guess who is free of them now!!)

A bloody language? Holy hell. That's so cool! How neat would it be to use your own language on some stories :0Β Welp, now I have a sudden urge to do the same. Ehh but it would take so much time.. :T

Hehe, you don't wish to be like me. When you don't stress enough you won't do anything either. At least not until the final day arrives and the realization of how screwed you are comes crashing down on your shoulders... heh. So a little panic is good, too much and it'll end up just like you said.

I never drink coffee but if I did... I'm a little afraid what would happen. I mean, a small bottle of coke keeps me awake all night.

(I've been avoiding to answer this because........ Because I'm a lazy piece of poo! \o/ ) (sorry!)

Congratulations on clearing your exams! how did it go?

Well actually, it's more of a code. Creating an entire language is boring, and I found out you can't import a language into your story without encountering some annoying person that starts comparing you with Tolkien all of the sudden T_T. I just say langauge because it sounds impressive (lol) , but it's actually no new syntax or vocabulary or anything. It's just a new alphabet and a new method of writing that no one but me understands

If only I knew a way to be less panic-y :/

Mmmmmm coke. I needed to stop drinking that because my teeth started falling out, but that used to me my coffee long ago Now it's just disgusting coffee

Don't worry about it It's just exams. Life is all about art anyways

You mean the lego bionicle ones? I didn't know that had a script, even though I loved bionicles (and all lego realy)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OrangeSavannah In reply to roelifant [2016-04-14 11:59:12 +0000 UTC]

Hahah, yeah lego bionicles! Literally my childhood right there x'D
(Geez I remember playing this bionicle game in the internet when I was a kid but because it was in English I never knew how to beat it. So some time ago I found it again when going through some digging and finally got to play it again. Damn the feels. I had to look up the alphabet again and learn it as some parts of the game were written with only those x'D)
Whoops this conversation is already quite long, oh well <3

roelifant In reply to OrangeSavannah [2016-04-14 19:43:34 +0000 UTC]

Oh I remember playing bionicle games too, but they were just flashgames. There were multiple of them
Oh wow the game does that? I only knew FEZ as the game with it's own language

I just loved the toys and I loved how the characters looked Uptill today I still have OC's that are mechanical or biomechanical, close to bionicles. It's just such a cool concept On DeviantArt (right here!) there are people still building their own bionicles and stuff. I always like to look at these

Long conversation = good conversation

This is so amazing! I'm loving this a lot!

Actually I haven't asked about that yet, what program do you use? I must know because I've been thinking about trying out landscape for a while since I'm working on a species and their home planet with all the scenery and all that but I have no idea is Paint Tool SAI is really capable of such magnificent backgrounds.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OrangeSavannah In reply to MASTER-K0HGA [2016-03-09 19:47:04 +0000 UTC]

I draw currently with Adobe Photoshop CC.
I've tried SAI before and fell in love with all the paint mixing tools but in the end it didn't really suit my style or what I wanted my style to look like.
(Okay, the reason for not using it could also be that I never really bothered to learn how it works)
I do think that you can achieve great landscapes with any drawing program you use. You should test different ones if you can and find out which you like the best

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MASTER-K0HGA In reply to OrangeSavannah [2016-03-09 23:35:12 +0000 UTC]

Ah ok then, adobe photoshop cc does seem really cool though! I'll look into that one later.
SAI took me a while to get used to at first! XD I actually did do some research to understand it better afterwards though which is something I never really do!
And yeah that is true, I'll definitely look around for some pretty neat programs, I wanna see which ones do a better job and make it easier for me.

Thanks!
