Description Okay guys, I've been dying to show you this piece for weeks now. I made it at the same time when I was drawing goretober hence it took me 4 days :'D

I have this pretty big project in school where I illustrate a little book that tells facts about ice age and what comes after it. It's sort of like a final work for my art studies.
I'm planning on posting all those illustrations here so feel free to give me critique if there is something you think would need room for improvement.

And just for the record this is the cover page for the (16 paged) book. The real title for the book is "Jäästä vedeksi" (From ice to water) as it's going to be wholly in Finnish.
I hope I can get to a daily update rythm again because otherwise I'm probably never going to get this whole project done in time. Oh dear

So yap. Tell me what you think. I got some sweet reference for the background from here link Go check them out.

Since this is a book cover, I'm confused about where are you thinking of putting the title.
The thing is, the main focal point is the bright blue ice. It has so much detail and contrast and vibrancy. Then you have that person on the tree in monochrome, which makes them look as if out of place, compared to the ice. They're not even receiving reflected light from the ice?
Usually I see book titles on the upper portion of the cover. Here that'd mean covering and/or dimming the vibrancy of the ice. That would bring more focus to the figure.
I'm not saying that anything is wrong or right, those things depend on where you're going with this and what you intended to have as your focal point.

Yes, yes I've been agonized about the title fitting myself too! It might work if I bring down the whole image (make some not so detailed background a little more to the top edge) where the title could then fit. Or maybe I won't place it at the top at all. Does it seem good if I put it upright on the right side?? I'll have to test those out but for now I'm quite glad how the work looks.
And oh yes! That would be a great idea to add some more reflection to the character

The first idea could work nicely! I'm not so sure what you mean about putting it on the right side but I think it could work out as well.
Or, there's also the option of bringing the whole image upwards, continue a bit more on the bg on the lower end that has darker neutral tones and take advantage of said tones to put the title on the lower half. This obviously depends on what you have in mind for the text; I was just imagining the title in white. I reckon things would work differently with other colours and effects.
Oh yes, the piece is very well rendered, it looks great. I wasn't sure if you wanted to make the character stand out like that or if you wanted them to really be in the scene. In the latter case, the reflective lighting would be ideal. If you went into one of those caves with no artificial light you'd probably only see blue, haha

I'll see what I can do and if I have time to do it. We can only hope.
My first idea was to make the character not so noticeable and that he would blend into the shadows. But well. Hm. Yes.
Thank you for all the advice C:

I trust your judgement. Once again, I'm not saying you should do it this or that way, just sharing my thoughts.
All the best with your work!
