It was probably intentional. Go back and watch some of your favorite 3D disney films and you will see the exact same thing.

They do it to make the hits look like they had more impact. They overexagerate the movement so it looks better for the show. I took a 3D animation class in college and the teacher showed us examples of them doing that for what we were supposed to do.

Yeah, this kind of exaggeration is the basic of the basic when you learn animation in classes or by example. Meshes don't deform that way unintentionally, really. XD They'd turn jagged and holes would appear if it was an accident.
