Description A little sneak peak of what I'm currently working on while the comic itself is still a bit stuck (I still don't know how to draw what's happening next, and I also have to pack everything I got here at my appartment. This house is going to be renovered so I have to move to another appartment. Busybusybusy). Yup, I'm drawing ref sheets of my wurries. So far I've got sketched Iacar, Crippled and Iralbe, and I'll upload them as soon as I get them inked and colored (read: when I get my light table cleaned enough to use it). I'll update Iacar's here when I get it done. And I really have to work on that personality part. It's darn hard thing to write about.

Useless little bits of information about Iacar, that you never knew and probably never needed to know:
- He tends to get nervous around females. He has lost his own mate, and because if that he kinda thinks that they are somewhat fragile things. (Surama doesn't count, though. That "rabid bitch" is crazy enough to beat even the biggest bullies, and since Iacar has known her since puphood, I don't even know if he even thinks her as female)
- Even though he looks like a boggart (he's not called "Pig face" for nothing, ya know) he doesn't get angry easily.
- His name is twisted from the name Icarus. You could always make up deep, symbolical meanings of it, but actually it's only because I was listening to the song Metal Icarus (by Angra) when I designed him.
- He is originally from Pyramos' pack (or Graman's pack, as it was known back then) where his brother still lives. I have actually even drawn this brother of his. In here: [link] Try to guess which one it is.
- In the early stages of designing him, he was melted together with Hafmar. The two of them separated pretty late during the thinking process, and they even traded some body parts and other details just before I started drawing the comic, though they ended up very different in the final version.
- His body structure has remained pretty much the same during the designing work, but originally he was brown (same color as Hafmar) with red markings and had an ability to spit fire, making him a deepblooded. Glad I changed that..

Any questions?
I must get this colored. I've noticed that Iacar's grey face doesn't show well in the comic pages making his face pattern to look white. Tsk, tsk tsk!

Character, story and all that stuff is (c) to me, thanks. ^^

(And by the way, I'd like to thank you all who explained me the difference between horns and antlers in my last drawing. You were most helpful. ^^ Aaaaaand since you seem to know what you're talking about, how about explaining to me the difference between words "claw" and "talon"? Thank yous! ^^)

Interesting details of him you really have collected... who used to be Iacars mate? How did she die?

(oh, and by the way, i've got Morri's mom done and submitted into my gallery, go check out ;3)

Yeah, I've had pretty fun in evil plotting -I mean designing... Her name was Nightclaw. She has pretty long story behind her, so I think I'll tell it later (might draw something of her).

Oh, I saw that drawing of yours. It's great, it surely hit right into my imagination. Awesome design! I think I'm gonna tweak it a bit (don't know why, but somehow I'm stuck with the idea of Morri's mom being a lot smaller and rounder than her son. I just thought it would be funny that she'd have to look up to her "little pup", when Morri himself is skinny and tall like a giraffe) But I still like your design. Thanks for letting me use it! ^^ Great inspiration.

- Nightclaw truly is a beautiful name

No worries, it's yours (like i've said about million times... :'D), so no prob tweakin' it around ;3

Ooh Fhit that is a pretty pair of picturef. Dangit you're good.

Iacar is probably the moft lovable char in the comic. After Surama, that if.

(Jeefh, fΓΆffΓΆttΓ€minen on yhΓ€ kivaa.)

...this reminds how *I* should be doing something resembling a character sheet on a char or two, since I most certainly have the obligatory text parts for them. *scuttles off*

Very nice but the body profile shot is a little short in terms of head and body proportions.

Paperiapina In reply to awrah [2007-12-13 07:55:18 +0000 UTC]

Yup, he has pretty weird body proportions. Anatomically he resembles almost more boar than wolf. (Short neck was accident, I didn't mean it to be so. I hope I remember to correct it in inking. ^^")

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

awrah In reply to Paperiapina [2007-12-14 04:26:47 +0000 UTC]

I get it they aren't supposed to be just wolves. I thought it was strange because the other character's anatomy seemed more consistent with lupines. Boar is a good way to put it, I forgot that those animals existed.

Claws are mostly associated with wolves, cats, etc.

Talons are usually connected with birds of prey. That's the simple explanation.

You can go on dictionary.com for more indepth stuff.

I like Iacar, he looks cute and fluffy! xD
A claw is the hard curved part of the toe in birds, reptiles and mammals.
A talon is basically the same but only refers to birds.

qitelremel In reply to ElementalSpirits [2007-12-12 21:08:01 +0000 UTC]

According to the Random House and American Heritage dictionaries, the word "talon" is not specific to birds.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ElementalSpirits In reply to qitelremel [2007-12-13 09:13:16 +0000 UTC]

According to the Odhams Dictionary of the English Language a talon is and I quote "n. the claw of a bird of prey: (arch.) a form of moulding concave at the bottom and convex at the top, an ogee." but then I'm using English not american 'english'.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

qitelremel In reply to ElementalSpirits [2007-12-13 11:16:11 +0000 UTC]

I haven't referenced that particular one, but I doubt that the usage of "talon" for the claw of non-avians is limited to my side of the pond: [link] Unfortunately, I can't link you to my print dictionary.

Elsewhere, a similar debate seethes about whether or not a creature that's not a fish may be said to have "barbels."

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ElementalSpirits In reply to qitelremel [2007-12-13 18:06:03 +0000 UTC]

I know you hadn't, that's the dictonary I used, I don't trust online dictonaries completely, their sources aren't always reliable.
Well, I've asked a lot of English people and they have all said that talons only found on birds of prey, so I'd say that it wasa purely american thing to say otherwise.
The only execptions that I can think of are mythical creatures, like Griffins, which have bird feet and would therefore have talons anyway.

I don't know about barbels, all the dictonaries I looked at said they belonged to fish.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

qitelremel In reply to ElementalSpirits [2007-12-14 04:04:54 +0000 UTC]

The term "talon" is also used in reference to reptiles (at least).Β  Mythical creatures are always an exception (for example, Chinese dragonsβ€”and in my opinion, WoW draenei) have barbels).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ElementalSpirits In reply to qitelremel [2007-12-14 20:09:36 +0000 UTC]

You can say it as many times as you like, but it won't chance the fact that IN ENGLAND talons are only found on birds of prey.

ElementalSpirits In reply to qitelremel [2007-12-16 09:12:54 +0000 UTC]

Well then, the way you write does not imply that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

qitelremel In reply to ElementalSpirits [2007-12-16 10:12:03 +0000 UTC]

In which case, I do apologize. I'm probably just as tired as you are of seeing the English language mangled on the Internet. Although reference works on the Internet may not be as reliable as print sources, they do give me the ability to create links to information. It would be quite a complicated and unreasonable process for you to show me the dictionary sitting in your lap from all the way across an ocean (and a continent) or for me to show you mine.

The Compact Oxford English Dictionary defines a talon as "a claw, especially one belonging to a bird of prey." If that is not a definitive enough source for you, I believe we must simply agree to disagree on the topic.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ElementalSpirits In reply to qitelremel [2007-12-16 16:12:32 +0000 UTC]

I should appologise too, I shouldn't have been rude, even if I thought you where.

My dictonary is old, and even though no one I know uses the word like you say (Including my lectures, one who is an expert in birds and another who is an expert in reptiles, and my brother who is a graduate in English) I'll accept the word has been corrupted, as all words eventually are. In the end, Talon is simply another word for claws.

Nice, I'm curious of how his field of sight looks. I like the "happy pose" you put him in, makes one wonder how the whole pack would look as pups. Idea?

Looking forward to the next update.

Well, I guess he doesn't have to lift his head up much if he wants to look up. That third eye is practically on his forehead.
*tries to see through her own eyebrows*
Hmm, wurriepups... Me likes the idea. ^^ Thank yous!
