i love this. as a little one, i LOVED the summer because it meant going to our family's rented condo that was part of this huge complex that felt like a palace to a little girl. we had a parking space in the garage that always spelled of sand. the first thing we ever did was unpack the car: totally mundane, right? nope. they have these huge canvas rolling bins to help with all your luggage (umbrellas, chairs, sandcastle construction materials, etc.) the best part was being allowed to crawl in with which whichever small cousin was visiting, and go up the elevator with my parents, turning the bin into a chariot in my head.
it was wonderful. we could look out onto to the ocean, i saw my first hurricane rolling and thundering across the ocean on the balcony with my folks, aunt, uncle, with my grandpa holding my hand tight.
money and some of the family moving on meant we lost the condo, but those were some fantastic vacations full of love, family, my older cousins ditching me and eventually taking pity on me and letting me come along, to play baseball on the beach, sneaking up to sit on the life guard benches at night to see out onto forever, kite flying, and family.
thank you again, anther happy ending brought to us by pascal campion. i'm fairly certain you are in fact secretly magical: or at least your art is.
love and happiness to you and your family,
hill

well one day when we grab that coffee, i'll tell you all about it! how about in a year, when my book is done? by then, i'll be stressed out and in need of a distraction. well, when you are back home and settled (no worries, i'll get a hotel, i love exploring, not invading the privacy of a stranger i met online, however sweet and kind he has been to me.)

does that mean that we might actually have a standing artist date in a year? you have my actual address, any chance, you would shoot me an email with your address so i can send you a thank you note?
hillcassbennett@gmail.com
(in case you've lost it.)
see you in a year.
also, does that mean you checked out my blog? oh! i'm working on another project: my murder mystery, and my young adult idea... still working on that one. but i have a lot of ideas for short stories and such that i sure could use help with.
if you happen to run into a publisher... send them my way
i'm asking for your address so that i can send a proper thank you note, and also, so i know where to get a hotel close to for a meeting in one year.
i can't wait to meet those adorable kids of yours and your beautiful wife! i warned you about my health, so hopefully, i won't have an attack when i'm there. or be too sick to make it. i'll find a way. no worries i generally have a standing date to talk about women's health, unfortunately, a new person took over, and they ended it, it was too much for the new person. a shame. but i always made sure i had enough spoons (the spoon theory: [link] )
i'm low on spoons, but have been working on my murder mystery and my young adult idea. i'm excited! working again, despite the pain, it's very exciting!
one year... holding you to that well, preferably not when it's insufferably hot. maybe a little before a year, unless i'm coming to your coast. in which case, june 25th is just fine.

I did read it.. especially the spoon theory.. it did strike a cord with me.
I didn't necessarily have something as dramatic as you, but I also had my shares of spoons to deal with..and still do to some extent. I just learned how to live with restrictions that others don't have.
I can relate to this.

i'm sorry to hear that, pascal, i won't pry if you don't want me to know, but having to live with restrictions, or having to think ahead, it's really the difference between being healthy and carefree and spontaneous (which i like to be), and someone with a chronic illness.
thank you for reading it. i'm sorry and glad that it resonated with you. it gives you a language to express to others what you're going through. with me, i always send it to new friends so i can explain, if i have to cancel "i don't have enough spoons for that today", or "i'm low on spoons so i can't go to a club...but i could go to a movie or sit and grab a coffee." (i actually don't think i've ever been healthy enough, since this started 13 years ago, 27 now, to go to a club.)
i'm sorry to hear that you are living with restrictions. i wish you health, friend.
love to you and yours,
and if you ever need to talk about it with someone who understands a change from completely healthy and a jock, to... well not, in the span of a day, i'm always here, or you can use my email: hillcassbennett@gmail.com,
i really wish i could write you a thank you note for the art book you sent me, signed with a sweet note and personalized drawing. that's the only reason i ask for your address. i promise i'm not a stalker
sending you health and well-wishes friend,
~hill
