Description
The New Haven (Properly New York, New Haven and Hartford Railway) was the first railroad in the United States to adopt electric traction, and although they had no previous precident to follow, their experiment was well engineered and done right. So much so, that here, over a century later, the same Victorian equipment and infrastructure of that brave new electric experiment STILL powers trains from New Haven to New York City. The New Haven was also unique and forward thinking until the time of McGinnis, in that even with the advent and wide useage of the catenary at the turn of the century, steam locomotives co-existed and worked beside electric traction for over sixty years.
