I have a bit of an issue.
I gave written a short story (relatively... its 50 pages) called Rage and Beauty, set in the Steven Universe... well...Universe. Its been getting great reviews (I tried to avoid adding my own canon material, so that anyone who liked the show would appreciate it), but my real problem is that I was sent THIS picture to use as cover art. At first I was happy that someone so talented would care to help me out. But then several of my reader's pointed out that this image was on deviantart, and was NOT the property of the person claiming ownership.Β
I am published author, and I appreciate the time and effort it requires to create something from your heart and mind, to share with the world. I know how I would feel if someone plagiarized my work, and I can only assume you would feel the same way.
I currently still have this image set as the cover for my story on FanFiction, and I would like to properly request permission to use it. (as well as giving proper credit to the artist)
However if you would rather I didn't use your artwork, I would be happy to remove it immediately. (I have already reported the issue to the admins on fanfic.)

The story should be fine for all ages (none of that crazy porn-ish stuff I have seen there.) but older readers would probably appreciate it more. I didn't want to create new characters or change the "feel" of the series, even though this is a slightly more mature and darker take on it. I wanted to faithfully represent the characters through their mannerisms and personalities, while forcing them to deal with more serious issues.
Anyway, I'm not trying to promote my work on your page, so I will stop here. I just wanted to let you know of the aforementioned issue, and make a proper request for the use of your image (as well as how you would like to be credited, should you decide to let me use it.)
All that aside, It IS a beautiful piece, and was the inspiration for many of the elements of my narrative as it took shape. (I just wish I knew then who REALLY created it.)

Unfortunately, I am unable to send an email to you, and while you may never read this, I have to say some things.
I've recently read your fan fiction, and I simply must say, words cannot express how deep and beautiful your writing is. I love the show, and waiting for the next episode is highly agonizing. So, to pass the time, I search for Steven Universe media created by other fellow fans (I might be more than a bit "obssesed"). But this is exactly why I do this; rarely, I find a gem (sorry for the pun) that moves me. You probably get this a lot, but I've never cried before at anything I've read until now. Again, I cannot truly express my admiration in any form of scripture.
As for anyone else reading this comment... READ THIS GLORIUS PIECE OF ART. You will not be disappointed, I assure you.

I don't mind if you want to use this picture as a cover for your fanfiction. Only if you planned to get money out of your story it wouldn't be okay. But this story is free for reading by everyone, so it's fine.

I have since deleted his review from my story, but his screen name, if I can recall correctly was StevenDraven, or possibly StevenRaven and he was only a guest user on fanfiction. I have no way of knowing if that's his usual ID, or just one he (and, really, I am assuming its a HE as well, given his comments on how cute Amethyst was ) chose to post a review.
Β I should have thought that it seemed suspicious, being a guest user, as anyone who takes the time to create something like that MUST feel enough pride in it to at least create a user ID if for no other reason than a little self promotion, but at the time I was so busy working on my story, that my common sense failed to arouse my suspicion. (I don't think I have ever written and completed a 50 page project in only 4 days before, I just couldn't stop myself)
I really appreciate your permission to use this art piece. It was the inspiration for how (!!minimal spoiler alert!!) the young knight remembered Amethyst in his heart, and led to his emotional obsession over her, as well as the basis for the naming convention I am using in my (now planned) trilogy. The story was originally going to be about the rage one feels when your loved ones are threatened, but due to your art, the narrative evolved into a duality of emotion. (ie. Rage cannot exist without Love to fuel it) and Amethyst became Β the catalyst for the young knight's rage to blossom, and give strength enough to endure the extreme physical and emotional pain in order to protect her.
If you are interested in the story, or have any ideas, I have set up a forum on fanfiction that I hope will become a repository of Steven Universe lore, which can be a reference for any author wanting to maintain the canon material from the show, without altering or adding too much original content, resulting in the loss of the 'feel' of the show.

I am also currently seeking input from readers about the next two 'episode' in my trilogy; sort of a brain-storming session.
Once again, I thank you for your permission to use this piece, and I assure you, that I have no plans to make more than 2 printed books, neither of which will be for sale. (one for the little girl who I began writing this for, and maybe one for myself).
