This jibes with the MAP near the start of the Tolkein Sscrapbook,Running Press, 1978. Beautiful pictures,fan-fiction, and the front cover shows Bilbo picking up his mail, and suddenly a very heavily robed Gandalf shows up. The back picture shows Frodo about to arrive in Valinor !
The map shows many periods in MiddleEarth's history, as if they all existed together. I count this book an invaluable part of my Tolkein shelf.

The famous Tim Kirk did the covers and some illos, tho such look more serious than usual.
The map by some joe named Malcom Strandberg.

Oddly enow, I am minded of property my family held in antique days, property in middle NJ, but never developed. After my mother died, and none of my family left, I found the tax receipts of that lost property. Nobody I could query about it ...
In the 50'we finally stopped paying taxes on the land, and let it go forfeit, rather than expend money on land we had no more interest in. My folks never discussed it with me, and so I learned of it only when all had died but me.
Now,here is where the link to this pic lies. I've checked a map of the current layout, compared it to the old one in our papers, and found the yery roads vanished, and new streets in their place, going in different ways. It would be futile to try & find anything. Just like Cuivenenen.

Indeed, considering the 1950s were barely 70 years ago, whereas Cuivenenen is 'years uncounted' lost, as Thingol himself put it, to memory and time ...

With no sun or moon before the First Age, how can time be counted ? Between the toppling of the Great Lamps (one of which stood like a tower at where Cuivenen later lay, and the other way south.), and the birth of the sun and moon from the silmarils, the Two Trees gave light, and Morgoth had a chance to repent, reform and atone for his crimes (but pride finally won out...), lay many thousands of years...

Waw, this is definitely evoking the atmosphere of the story! A beautiful representation of Cuivienen…

Just like some of my Casper books practically wrote themselves ! Now all I can write are summaries practically. I finally have some energy to do "Director's cuts" but they are nothing like the pieces that wrote themselves.
