my app for dis-colour !! jeez i'm shocked at the fact that i even managed to get this done at all i'm typically really bad about these sorts of things laug hs,,!! after watching lupin iii with some friends while i drew this i decided to snag the titular character's name (as a joke? knowing me -- probably; i always take these filler names too far smh) though the two fictitious examples i've seen of the name 'lupin' have had it as the surname? whoops!! it's alright, we'll call him lu looking back on it now i should've named his color 'blood on the leaves'... my problematic fav

Aside from color, the one thing absent from Lupin Shelley's life was his mother who supposedly died of illness
when he was very young. He knew her just about as well as he knew his father, a distant individual who favored
business over spending time with his son. It wasn't a fact which bothered Lupin growing up - he accepted it as
if it were the norm to receive such little attention from one's sole guardian. Of course, Shelley didn't grow
entirely on his own. It was the tutors his father hired to tend to him on their large estate that recognized
Lupin's prodigious abilities, dubbing him a genius, a perfect boy, though it wasn't until Lupin first sat
behind a piano that his father, too, began to recognize his son's talent, his mental capabilities.

Unfortunately, that wasn't all his father would soon grow to realize.

At this point, his memory of it is less sharp than it was when he first entered the Facility, but he's still
able to recount the experience with considerable clarity; of course he is -- who would forget something as
important as the first time they experienced color?

The piano was moved to a large, spacious room with windows all around. His father was impressed by his
musical abilities - he wanted to show off the son he recently grew to be proud of; he knew his coworkers
would enjoy a little show after all the hard work they put in all week long so he invited them -- all
of them.

Lupin remembers the scene, the atmosphere. Though for the first time since practicing in that large, spacious
room, the thick curtains were drawn back to let the light in, with over fifteen sets of eyes trained directly
on him, he felt as if he were suffocating. But he isn't the kind of person to get stage fright, not even now
so he put his fingers to the keys and started to play. With the sun setting behind him, typically he wouldn't
have even registered its rays, but on the stark, white keys of the piano he sees something strange -- and
stops playing.

There was a murmur through the small crowd, nervous glances exchanged throughout the room and behind him
he can practically feel his father's quiet rage towards the son who embarrassed him in front of all these
people. But no matter, the show must go on, right? Right?

Except, it doesn't.

He'd stopped playing entirely, had stood up from the piano bench and turned towards the others to point
at something outside the window where the shade was much more vivid than on the piano's keys. Out of his
mouth came the question: " Can you all see that, too ? "
It was then that the "perfect boy" was immediately viewed as imperfect as his father rushed everyone out --
but too late, they'd all realized it as soon as his father had, as soon as Lupin himself realized that what
he'd just seen was color.

Not long after that, those from the facility came, took him away, promising that the once-perfect boy would
be perfect once more if he would just follow them, please. Lupin had little complaints. His father had little
complaints. The stony silence which characterized their parting wasn't unpeculiar given how little was said
between them through the years.

He'd been avoiding mirrors as much as possible before he was taken away, the sight of his eyes purposing
as a constant reminder that he was not as perfect as he'd always believed, as if his eyes held within them
the color of the sky that day, a perfectly preserved snapshot of that late afternoon.
