Description So pleased with this one. I drew this for the weekly prompt of the art club I'm part of on tumblr. The prompt was to draw something that involved "cybernetics."

The concept is that the wings are made of super-thin metal that folds out from small implants on the subject’s back. The wing on the left is fully extended, while the wing on the right is only partially so. When fully compacted, they’re just little strips of metal on the shoulder blades. The metal the wings are made of actually contains little nanomachines that react to flight conditions and rearrange and reconstruct the wings’ shape throughout flight for optimal efficiency. These same nanomachines also interact with the brain’s impulses and so the shape of the wings may also be modified by the subject at will.

Wow! That is quite a wing! I love your concept on this character's wings and that he can control them with his mind. The desolate city-scape makes it more interesting too!

Yeah! There's actually a story forming behind this landscape, so we'll see if I get around to it any time in the future!

Love the science behind the artwork, which, not to mention, is fantastic; well done!

Thank you for taking the time to give me feedback. I like it when there's a story behind artwork, and having science behind artwork is just as cool.

You're quite welcome! I love stories and science backing art; it gives you not only a better perspective but makes it all the more imaginative and enjoyable.

I like the clean lined approach to the cybernetic wings. The different angels make them appear fluid.
BTW: still waiting for the blood in the snow art you mentioned on Tumblr.

What a powerful concept! Seriously, I want to see this wing design implemented in an epic sci-fi film in the near future. I especially like the idea of the nanomachines reacting to the brain of the host like an organic pair of wings would.

Very intriguing three-point perspective, by the way. It's quite beautiful. I feel like there could be a bit more contrast between the top of the wing and the background... bolder lines, perhaps? But all in all, this is a very lovely piece. The streaks and splatters of the background are probably my favorite detail. I'm always too afraid to implement that stuff into my own artwork, so seeing it makes me go, "Guhhhhh howdidhedothat." X'D

Spatters are really easy! Just put little pieces of paper over the parts of the work you don't want spatter on. I used some old to-do lists to cover up parts on this piece; really, any paper thicker than tissue paper will work.
