that's what I think too but several friends say it could have been dangerous... they also stay indoors when it rains too... some peoples kids I swear!

Exactly! Where is the fun in standing in a storm and not have any sense of caution derived from possible impending doom, err I mean danger.

It takes a lot of patience since the lightning flashes on its own time and seems random. Thing is there is a certain timing to it and if you can get a feel for it that's when you get really epic images.

works best if your camera has a bulb setting, meaning it has a timed/long exposure setting where the shutter stays open for many seconds and a steady tripod helps too.

ah i see... im afraid of thunder storms....   so i try to stay in doors... but i love those pictures of the lightning.... very fascinating... i'm going to try that after i get a new camera..... hopefully better then the one i have now...lol

All I can tell you is I had the camera set to action or highspeed, pre-focused the lens on a distant object then set to manual. After that I just drove down the road using the camera as a point and shoot and hoped my original focus depth would be sufficient for anything that came along. In this one instance it worked but in many others it was just a tad fuzzy or off completely.

Lol basically a lucky shot. Normally you use bulb settings for this shit and a tripod. Whahaha. But it is all it takes. Well done.

Thanks and yeah I have spent many a time with bulb settings and trying to time the lightning's rhythmic flashes. well sort of a rhythm...
