How would you have them modify the next Superman suit in the Batman Superman movie

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

phil-cho In reply to Gojira012 [2013-08-27 16:55:10 +0000 UTC]

I don't think I would - unless it served as a plot-point. One of the ideas I had was that the negative space of the "S", would be yellow during daylight, and black at night. That's really the only thing, but I actually like the suit a lot as it is. It's very sci-fi and alien.

Kerevon [2013-06-21 15:59:35 +0000 UTC]

Loved that line. Mostly because it meant that his name, Superman, actually made sense in this continuity (not in that he's a Super Man, but in that he fits the "Ubermensch" archetype that coined the term "superman" in the first place).

No kidding, Superman's one of the best characters conceived.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kerevon In reply to phil-cho [2013-06-21 16:00:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes and no. The actual character is a tad bit boring most of the time, but the stories surrounding him are fantastic, and the idea is a great one to build stories around.

phil-cho In reply to Kerevon [2013-06-22 15:56:21 +0000 UTC]

Really? I like Superman - he reminds me of Jesus.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kerevon In reply to phil-cho [2013-06-22 17:25:01 +0000 UTC]

Ironic, considering he was created by two Jewish kids, has an origin that closely follows that of Moses, and was originally conceived to be the American answer to the Nazi "ubermensch". Also, I just find the Christ-allegory later versions tacked on to be annoying.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

phil-cho In reply to Kerevon [2013-06-22 22:52:14 +0000 UTC]

It makes sense to me though. They were creating their own American "Jesus" if you will. Superman was an alien sent to protect and save the low and middle class America. People of different religions throughout history, ancient history even, have always had savior types going back even thousands of years before Christ. There's something about the story of this particular kind of hero, that lasts forever. It's a universal concept re-iterated in different designs and characters, but the story and message is the same in all of them.

Also, the story of Christ is purposefully mirrored to that of Moses (savior of Israel) to show he was fulfilling prophesies in the Old Testament, and for Moses to be the foreshadowing of a future savior - in fact Jews are still waiting for a messiah to fulfill those same prophecies. The savior myth is one of the oldest narratives, and Christians believe Christ is that myth turned reality. Moses was an adopted Jew in Egypt, and later saved his people from enslavement by the pharaoh. Jesus was also an adopted foreigner (this time from heaven), and later saved all people from being enslaved by sin. I mean Superman's a lot like that too - only he's from Space, and saving people literally instead of spiritually. The lists go on - mythical and religious figures like Hercules, Mithras, Adonis, Romulus, and Osiris are also this type of hero as well (and all come before Christ, but not necessarily before Moses). You should look into Joseph Campbell's "A Hero with a Thousand Faces" if at all interested in the subject.

Point is, the Christ-allegory is inescapable. I like the idea that humanity has had the same concept of the perfect hero, for thousands of years. It's one thing we have in common with our ancestors. Superman is a window into these older religious figures, including Christ - representing everything it means to be good, and you know what? We don't get to Batman, Spider-man, X-Men, or anyone else without him. From this concept, albeit purposefully modeled after a specific genre of hero, came forth such a wealth of imagination and world of fiction.

Didn't mean to get all crazy on you like that, but I felt I was misunderstood, haha. Perhaps I should have said Jesus reminds me of Superman

Indeed! Been playing that game a lot these days, and I mean A LOT. When I'm not playing the console version, I play the iOS version, haha. Seriously though, it's the best thing ever. Since I'm a fan of both fighting games and DC comics, it's a dream come true.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kurvos In reply to phil-cho [2013-04-29 02:40:29 +0000 UTC]

That's awesome, man. Same thing here - love fighting games, and love DC Comics a LOT. So, yeah... the game just feels like a dream coming true... uhm, despite all the annoying DLC and iOS shit you need to get separately. XP But meh, that's sadly how the gaming industry works nowadays. Still, I do love the game.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

phil-cho In reply to Kurvos [2013-04-29 02:54:21 +0000 UTC]

I'm more than happy to support Netherrealms and pay for the DLC. The fact that things like the skins from Arkham City, Batman Beyond, Red Son, and Flashpoint exist in the game is enough for me. It's just got so many cool things going on - I couldn't possibly expect to get all that for free on top of an already amazing fighting game. Also, the iOS version is FREE, which is really awesome. And it's not like you have to pay for the DLC either, there are ways to get them by playing the game (it would take a while though of coarse).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kurvos In reply to phil-cho [2013-04-29 12:09:19 +0000 UTC]

Get all for free? I never said you should "get them for free", dude. You don't get it for free either way. You pay for the game - paying full price for it is enough for me to say I deserve all of it's content. But even if I put what you say into consideration... then why didn't they include all the extra content in the Collector's Edition, which I bought? There's absolutely no reason whatsoever for that - I payed extra money for it.
And guess what? Not everyone has a web connection to their PS3. I have, but still. And not everyone has a card to buy things for like DLC. I don't. And not everyone owns an iPhone - I do not. I own a simple basic mobile phone. I have to get help from a guy I talk to online to retrieve the iOS skins - that's just beyond insane and stupid. And yes, of course I want most of the skins - not only am I one of the biggest DC fans out there - I'm also a big dork for character designs and depictions, and I am a huge fighting game geek.
I just want it to be more just and fair. I can not believe we live in times where buying a whole complete game is too much to ask for. That's actually really dumb.

phil-cho In reply to Kurvos [2013-04-30 00:49:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I get your point but I don't understand the animosity. I'd take Injustice with all its bad business practices over no Injustice at all. I know that's not a good argument but all that stuff doesn't seem worth complaining about when they did so many things right. I just like to stay positive about things, that's all.
