Actually, as a bit of a classical comic book historian, "The Batman" is not only a proper use, but somewhat common one among the criminal element.

Example: "Holy crap, it's the Batman! Run!"

It even has a movie reference when Michelle Pfieffer's Catwoman is teasing, and asks is it Batman, or The Batman.

Old timers, and people whose collections go back into the sixties commonly refer to him as The Batman, and give a nod to others who do as well. Like a secret handshake between us.

How recently did you get in to Batman that you say "the Batman"....?

phoenixbird In reply to Minoe23 [2012-07-12 21:21:58 +0000 UTC]

I said just one time "the bat man" as a nickname. The rest of times I said Batman as his name

Yeah, but in classic Batman fan's, you never see that.

I still don't see your point. I mean, it's just an adjetive, I don't see the problem for classic fans or modern fans.

Modern fans know nothing of Batman, or Spiderman, or well, anything that goes back a long way, from what I've seen.

"Batman is a fictional character, a comic book superhero created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. The character first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939), and since then has appeared primarily in publications by DC Comics. Originally referred to as "The Bat-Man" and still referred to at times as "The Batman", he is additionally known as "The Caped Crusader", "The Dark Knight",and "The World's Greatest Detective,"among other titles".

The Batman was not used by the fan-base until recently, however, he was referred to The Batman in the original comic, and it became just Batman from the fans.

So... what's the point? what's wrong with "the bat man"?

Minoe23 In reply to phoenixbird [2012-07-13 00:29:10 +0000 UTC]

A fan using it almost always signifies new fans, since they used it again recently, which means they know little to nothing of the heroes.

Well, apart from that I'm not agree with you, you can't generalize with that. I'm not new fan, and I still don't see what's wrong with saying "the bat man". Being a fan is as easy as enjoy at your way.
