It's funny to me that human vision is more wide than even 'anoramic' photos.

nice tut!
Very simple, anyone can do it.
maybe do a tut on stitching different seasons together, taking it's an outdoor scene.
tips on blending and or making things look better?

amade [2005-04-12 17:43:43 +0000 UTC]

If I may add a lil' bit on the manual stitching part: Instead of erasing certain zones so the underlying image is revealed you can instead use the masking function to almost seamlessly blend both layers. You just have to understand how masks work in PS or any other program like it which is quite simple once you've played around with it.

Yep, good addition. We may actually do a separate tutorial on all the stiching tips

Hi, i have a simple question! I think my tripod's screw doesn't match the nodal point of my camera...is that possible?!

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

geostant [2005-02-28 07:15:29 +0000 UTC]

I would like to add a comment :
Photoshop also offers an automatic stitching process.

Under FILE > AUTOMATE
You can find the Panorama tool.

Enjoy

niimo [2005-02-15 00:52:21 +0000 UTC]

Excellent tutorial! I read it some time ago, before ever attempting my first panorama and it was thorough enough to help me understand the basics, although, being a total newbie to photography itself, much I still did not understand. Now, coming back to this, as a whole it makes much more sense and interestingly, the methods I have come accustom to are the very methods that you describe here! How reassuring

I just have to say it seems well written, brief and nicely organized. I am especially pleased about the part that you talk about manual stitching (the only way to go, in my opinion) and also taking the pictures without a tripod (because I don't use one!) Fantastic work.

Very happy to hear that

If you're getting more advanced in panorama photography you may want to give a try to PTAssembler [link] for the stitching. I like manual stitching too but I just love PTAssembler. It's not an al automatic tool and therefore there is a large learning curve but it lets you configure everything and resolve complex panoramas easily. Thanks again for the feedback

niimo In reply to photo-class [2005-02-17 13:53:18 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for that link to PTAssembler! It looks very different from the panoramafactory type program, and it does look like it has some great advantages. Much more specialized for the purpose than PS or in my case, Gimp. When I become more serious with my photos and panoramas no doubt this will be the first program I will look to try!

photo-class In reply to niimo [2005-02-18 10:16:56 +0000 UTC]

PTAssembler is a front end to the great but not-so-user-friendly Panorama Tools which are developped on Sourceforge, and they are also working on a plugin for the gimp that will do the same thing . I will probably do a photo-class tutorial on PTAssembler soon.

niimo In reply to photo-class [2005-02-18 23:18:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh that would be excellent! (about the plug in and the tutorial!)

Sourceforge, heyy, my very first editting program was Imageforge! So maybe I will be familiar with this. Thank you for all the info and of course for building on the great idea of photo-class!
