Here's part of my promotion for stitchingpirates 's The Looooooooooooong Contest , a contest about 3D stitching that will span the next year. Since I won first place in the monochrome contest I can't actually participate for prizes, but that's not going to stop me from using it as an excuse to make all those 3D things I've been wanting to make!

Here's my very first 3D building from cross-stitching. I've owned the book simply titled 3D Cross Stitch for many years but never had the excuse to motivate myself to go for it. This one is originally The Flower Shop kit that Meg Evershed (and presumably co) sell on their website www.3dcrossstitch.co.uk/ with a pile of modifications by myself.

The most obvious change you're likely to spot is the fact that I didn't use the Flower Shop text but instead chose to rename the building Sew Sweet Stitches since I thought that was pretty cute and more applicable to me than a flower shop.

The middle-most change is actually pretty literally in the middle, between the fabric and the color stitches, and that's the glow-in-the-dark orange Kreinik. I put it in all the windows and in the lantern so that the whole thing glows at night.

The largest change would be the entire fourth wall: I totally removed the flower shop's pattern and used two separate patterns from the book to make a custom wall in the back. I changed the ground/base to match this change since the original pattern called for a third door (THREE DOORS ON A FOUR WALLED STRUCTURE?) and so the base path had three exits. Now it only has two.

Putting this beast together is not perfect nor easy. I think for my first attempt it came out pretty solid and I'm happy with the end result though. I used invisible/clear nylon super thin thread to do all my connecting stitches.

As always, I used beads instead of french knots. I changed some of the french knot colors to yellow to match my own scheme.

Color Total: 15
Bead Sizes: 1
Bead Color Total: 3
Bead Total: 106
Size: ~4 x 3 x 3
Time Total: Stitching: 35.5 / Finishing: 3.5 / Total: 39 Hours
14 and 18 count grey, white, and black Aida
Pattern by Meg Evershed

I didn't knew this was stitched when I clicked on it. It's very impressive, the detail and the time you put into it, its magnificent!

Thank you!! I'm really proud of this one. The shop that sells these little houses doesn't have a ton of patterns but the ones she does have are just too cute to resist. And the book she put out has enough 'blanks' to work from that I think someone could really customize out an entire set themselves.

This one finished even cuter than I thought it would! I'll have to stitch one of these myself someday.

Whoa, that is so cool! I didn't know one could make something in 3D using cross stitching.
And it glows in the dark!

You're welcome~
It'll be really cool to see what else you can come up with using 3D stitching in the future~ Maybe one day, you could make a life-sized house like that~ X3

Yo, this is so cool! I love the design, it kinda reminds me of a more complicated/aestheticly pleasing gingerbread house. The flowers and colors make it so cute

Thank you very much! I can't take all the credit on the design portion, a lady named Meg Evershed did most of that work, I just tweaked it to fit myself.

DragonChaser123 [2018-06-16 20:58:39 +0000 UTC]

Very impressive, especially since you used normal fabric aida! How do you make it stand up so well? do you stuff the inside?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pinkythepink In reply to DragonChaser123 [2018-06-17 16:53:49 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! The insides are actually stitched to some perforated plastic, really high count like you would use for needlepoint. I think I would've preferred to just stuff it though, haha, the corners wouldn't have been as nice but I think it would've been simpler.
