Emma Goldman, radical activist and Anarchist writer, born 1869 in modern day Lithuania, emigrated to Rochester through NYC, and after being arrested for inciting striking workers to revolt, distributing birth control literature, edited an informative politically-radical periodical that was forcibly suppressed by the US government, and establishing "no-conscription" leagues, was forcibly deported to Russia.
