The columns of Gediminas. This symbol is a very ancient Lithuanian symbol usually called the columns of Gediminas. The symbol was used by the descendents of Gediminias who was Grand Duke of Lithuania. The symbol later was used by many families and become widely used in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The symbol was also used on battle flags, for example in the Battle of Grünwald. In the Middle Ages Rectangle flags were not in use. The symbol is sometimes depicted on red background but with yellow colors.
