I lov this but question..Is the white an illusion looking three dimensional peace of tape, or is it real tape on the surface of the photo. I did work like this at one time, darkroom work, and it was all illusion.

BUT! if you have the photograph as a base image and literally stick a peace of tape on top of the photo is it still all about illusion or is it about 3'd existing with 2'd?

Well, this is interesting; first of all one has to establish a consensus of what we are talking about, when using the word ”illusion”; as I see it all imagery is about creating illusions, and especially when talking about ”reality”. Photography is basically about the 2’d surface, and has nothing to do with reality in a physical sense (except when you develop a photo into a physical form and put it in a frame, than the frame and the paper constitute a physical object, but the image is still just a two dimensional surface), so you’re of course right that a physical tape works the same way as the frame, it transforms the 2’d surface of the photograph into an object, but in some sense it is still about illusions, at least if the purpose of putting that tape onto the surface of the photograph is about art; if the purpose is to create art, because art is very much about illusions, as I see it…
