Description Got bored. Drew this.

Think of it as when she reaches her magical peak.

I went for a "powerful gracefulness" feel instead of "badass flaming rage".

If pegasi have a wingpower scale, then unicorns should have a magic scale.
I'm thinking a decimal number. 1 = Celestia.
So a normal unicorn would be rated 0.17 mu (magical units) when relaxed.

Rarity = .26
Twilight = .42
Trixie = .39
Luna = .81
Nightmare Moon = 1.2
Discord = 1.9
A changeling = .25
Chrysalis = .74
Filly Twilight (During the entrance exam) = .73
Any of the Elements of Harmony when active = .98
Sweetie Belle (canon) = .09
Sweeite Belle (Post Crusade) = .28

Other sub-species should also have smaller magic quantities. Must be over .11 to exert magic.

Pinkie Pie = (Untestable. The machine breaks every time she tries it. She owes us 40,000 bits.)
Rainbow Dash = .0183
Applejack = .0182
Fluttershy = .0187
Spike = .12

I think celestia's should be higher.

Lovely. And like the scale, especially Pinkie's part.

As much as I love the intention in the magic scale, I feel some of it is off. For example, is Nightmare Moon really stronger than Celestia? The same goes for Discord, or at least that much stronger. And with Trixie, in the show (Canon) she only ever really did cheap light tricks, something that Rarity does better (as well as other effects) for when she shows of her original dresses in the episode Suited for Success.

by your reckoning, Trixie is only 7.1% short of Twilight's capacity - being able to Lift numerous items weighting Tonnes over significant distances with good stability control.

Needs re-evaluation.

That's definitely got to be her greatest talent, singing.

Well, it is said that the Elements of Harmony are the most powerful magic known to ponydom, so they're more powerful then Celestia, so I'd say their magic units should be larger than 1.

I would imagine that one element isn't as powerful as the six combined. And when they're active, they'd score even higher. Remember, that number is the individual element's magic output when inactive. (Think: just sitting in a room doing nothing.)

.98 x 6 = 5.88 as the combined elements minimal magical output. When in use, it could reach more than 15.

Then you have to factor in the magic levels of the mane six (again, when active, which is higher than what I have there).

The total would be around an ass-kicking 20, plus Pinkie's indefinite score.

Lol, Pinkie Pie's Magic quantity...

Personally, I prefer badass flaming rage Sweetie Belle... As my art attests to....

Good play with light and shadow on this one.

hmmm... magic scale. I wonder where Kayleigh ranks on it

First off, the artwork is pretty good. I don't know about the effect, though...it is good, don't get me wrong, but I feel that it could have been better using a different kind of effect method. However, that is just my perfectist side talking, so you can ignore him if you want. I'm not going to say much about the background, since you probably wasn't motivated to focus on it much.

As for the magic scale, I think it is pretty close (maybe a little tweaks here and there, but again, that my perfectist side talking). One serious issue I do have is with Pinkie Pie's scale, which I don't think belong in the bottom category, but in her own category by itself. I think a question mark would be better suited for it than .0824, because honestly, who really know the depth of power laid underneath that goofy hyperactive pony.

I'm just starting out with this "lighting and glow" effects stuff. I'm not liking the effect either. But hey, now I know for the next time. And backgrounds were never a specialty of mine and I tend to not care about it. The only reason it's purple is because I needed a dark color to contrast the green.

And you're right about the Pinkie score. I changed it to be more realistic.

Thanks for the feedback.

Ah, I see. Heh, well, in that case, you did a pretty good job for your first effect. If you keep up the progress nicely, I can expect great things from ya!

Don't worry, backgrounds keen to be pretty much the bane of all artists, professional or otherwise. I, for one, also have issues with them, but truthfully, I haven't really been focus on them as much, if any, as the characters (which I really need to correct very soon). Still, for being simple, it isn't really that bad. Better than most artists that felt the same as you do.

You're welcome! Keep up the great job!

wait how did Twilight get weaker in magic?

postcactus In reply to Marksmen16 [2012-05-20 22:45:32 +0000 UTC]

She didn't. The .73 score wass Twilight at her strongest. The .42 score is when she's relaxed.

RelativeEquinox [2012-05-20 21:55:10 +0000 UTC]

A caution concerning Chrysalis's power; she was weaker than Celestia. The only reason she was stronger than her was because she had basically just stopped eating for who knows how long. "I've become stronger even than Celestia!"

I would put Chrysalis at her normal power around maybe 0.65-0.75. She was clearly scared of Princess Celestia at first and stood no chance under normal circumstances.
