Wow I think this one is my favorite.
It's something I won't forget.
Don't get me wrong your other water colors are very good but for me the composition on this one spoke more.
Either way your watercolors are whimsically beautiful and I love your color sense.
In fact it's inspiring me to do more watercolor.
I was wondering if I can take lessons from you sensei?
Cheers!

Egads I just checked her out and Puimun is awesome!
I can see the influence but I still see your art as your own.
Thanks for this tip!
Do you tend to draw/paint things spontaneously or methodically?

PS Puimun is epic haha. Glad you think my work is still individual. I do tend to get too inspired by other artists sometimes.

So sorry for the late reply.
The holidays been grabbing a hold of me. Also getting sick from the seasonal changes didn't help.
But to answer your question, I've been trained to be a methodist so I would traditionally do the thumbnails, then lineworks for the actual size, then transfer and then finish with the rendering.
It's a tedious and precise method. Not very motivating except for a chance to practice patience.
But let's face it practicing patience is probably the most hair pulling eyeballs wrenching boring thing.
So I've noticed myself becoming scared whenever I sit in front of a BIG high quality paper/canvas knowing that this would be the end deal.
I thought doing it so many times for years that the fear would go away but it really doesn't.
I've asked some of my colleagues if they felt daunted whenever they stare at the blank white and they unanimously said no.
You?
Sorry it got long winded.
But to finish answering your question just recently I decided to listen to what my heart wants and just draw it straight on the paper.
It takes longer than my other method, but I could probably chalk it up to being not so used to it.
The results are interesting.

At the beginning it was harder to fill the white space. But as I started practicing the more confident I became. I think it could be the fear of a bad result that is holding you back. You know what though? It's bound to happen. Even the post practiced artist will have to do several sketches before they find the right idea. Abd what you told me from your background, preparing is the way to go and perfection is the end result. Just give it a shot and just sketch whatever comes to mind even if it doesn't look right. It's all about the feeling after all.

Yes you are very wise. The expectation to perfectionism it what makes me fall to the depths.
I need to just sketch whatever comes in my mind. This has been a very insightful conversation.
I appreciate this. You're the best!
