Description The first ScrollBoss banner I ever made had the Golden Axe heroes on it so I decided to have fighter-scale sprites of them in their magic-using poses ready for the 10th Anniversary. I had a Tyris sprite of this years ago that still holds up so I just needed the other two. I resized the Gilius pose and traced the basic shapes before changing things and shading it to look more like a Capcom fighting game sprite.

Thanks, Mike! You put together a lot of great edits yourself so it's always good praise if you like how a sprite turned out!

Good one, good one indeed!

That brings back memories of playing Golden Axe while visiting one of my pals back in elementary school .

Did you know that, back in the day, Golden Axe was put on the index for media which could corrupt the young? Titles like that are almost never carried by video game stores in Germany, cause they are not allowed to put it on shelves and advertise it...they might only sell it to adults which ask them specifically about it.

Crazy German media censorship, ain't it?

I had no idea that the censorship was that bad in Germany back then. Did Germany have a "Video Nasties" style movie list too?

Censorship and Violence in media is STILL a big issue in Germany.

Back then and now we have the "Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien/Schriften" (BPJM/BPJS) which is an institution with the authority to put films, cds and video games on the so-called "index" (usually because something is too violent, or pornographic).

When something is put on the index (as far as I know, they only test media which is submitted by some folks who were offended by it), then it's illegal to promote it and display it on store shelves. Only people of adult age (18 here) might buy it, but that's behind the counter practice (most stores don't carry indexed games as they don't make much profit out of it) or restricted to mail orders who want to have a copy of your ID when ordering.

They even got the power to declare games with the status "beschlagnahmt" which means as much as confiscated. A game with this status is illegal to own by private persons and also forbidden to be sold at all. Most of the times it's media which spreads nazi and racist propaganda (declared as hate crime media). But the most popular game which has been "beschlagnahmt" was Mortal Kombat II (just so you have an idea of the German violence standards).

Even nowadays games are at an risk to be indexed or confiscated. Because of that, most publishers themselves censor their games before they send them in for a review (i.e. Fallout 3 is missing flying limbs and exploding bodies --> the UK version is intact which is why the other Fallout 3-versions were put on the index in Germany). Hell...even Wolfenstein 3D was confiscated back in the day just because there were Swastikas in it (German censors react highly allergic to Swastikas in games..so the new Wolfenstein-game had to edit them out).

So because of that, I prefer to order my games from the UK, as they don't censor them.
