well i'm not a painter , but i draw well , mostly portraits , and i try to paint .

I spent 20 years with brush and never ever try to paint-i has working with ceramics...i know about you talk ...fear to find myself and nobody notice that or give bad critics...
o yes i make some sketch for friends daughter 
You should go deeper -i recognise this skils in you when i sow your first work...without fear-just be qurious and try everything.Love you

there is something atract me-paint and relief-ceramic influence i persume ...i don`t have fear anymore-i sold that much ceramics -mesured in tons 
And i am not sure is it fear really or emotions i dont know proper name-exciting to explore yourself,curiosity what is deep inside you ...and did you express what you want.and all that mixed...
if you decided to paint-just do and prepare shild strong enough to save your emotions of other people.

i had no idea about what you do -ceramics- and how you had all this paintings in your life .
i guess every form of art is more about self exploration than it is about self expression after all , painting even more than photography for me , and maybe that's what is most frightening .

aïe , ca va pas etre facile d'en trouver d'autres , j'ai presque posté tout ce que j'avais et maintenant c'est la caméra qui me prends tout mon temps
bon je vais essayer de m'y remettre ,j'en ai deja une qui est a moitié terminée et qui attends depuis plus d'un an , je pense que ca sera mon prochain projet

i wonder why people say things like
"i am not a painter"
perhaps because society has expectations
of what a painter should be
but if a painter lives up to expectations
then they are a boring painter
as artists, there are no expectations
perhaps we should strive to loose titles
and when someone asks what we are
we should just glare at them
until they realise what a silly question they just asked
or perhaps they realise that defining people
putting them into categories
should be left to the bureaucrats
and only they should have labels to say what they are

Dave you are so right , this was only my complexes speaking .
i have this old and sad feeling of having wasted my talent for so many years , knowing i have it somewhere and never doing any thing about it .
that was the first thing that came to my mind when i posted this , to almost apologize for what i consider my best painting until now . what a weird thing to do ...i know , this is not my first paradox and it won't be the last , unfortunately .
so let's reformulate this , i am a painter long ago before i was a photograph , in fact 33 years longer ..
anyway , in real life , when someone asks me what i am , i rarely say i am a dentist , i say i am an artist
