Say this could be made real. Rangers short for Moon Rangers. I wonder if the rifle is a laser rifle or gyro jet gun. Me i think laser rifle, lets see why, because there is no recoil and the cool factor. I see this is the suit used by the rebels lunar marines in the game Rebel Moon Rising!!

but... why does he wield a futuristic looking rifle if all technology was forgotten? wouldnt it be suitable if he would wield some sort of self constructed or 20-50's like weapon?

He could have found it just like the suit.
Or it could have been handed down through the generations.
Or it is 50s equivalent technology, and it simply has a different aesthetic.
Or these people aren't as primitive as you think and that rifle is the product of early 21st century equivalent technology. This is, after all, several generations after the end. 1 generation is 20 years. It's a middle ages kind of situation.
Europe didn't go back the stone ages when the Roman Empire fell.
