Description Those of you who've been following me for a while will have seen me mention two games that I've been making; one called Miasmon, and a more recent one called Programon. They're both monster-catching games, and they were supposed to have different settings and gameplay styles... BUT, rather than spreading my time and energy between two increasingly similar projects, I've decided instead to simply merge the two. I'm keeping the gameplay of Programon and some of the setting and the title of Miasmon.

Anyway, I need to design some more monsters for the game! I'm going to use a lot of designs that I came up with for Miasmon months or years ago, perhaps, but I thought I'd also try and see what I could come up with now.
Each monster has a 'Body Type' and an 'Element', and I made a random combination generator, here: [link]
I used that to come up with pairings, and drew what came to mind for each one.
They're also all meant to be the lowest evolutionary stage (Essent), so their designs are intentionally simplistic.

Some are better than others! None are world-shatteringly original or appealing, of course, but I would be interested to hear if any of them appeal to you more than the rest!

Personally, I like number 3 (Stratapillar), 6 (the submarine/sun fish thing), 8 maybe (a cross between a frog and a light bulb), 13 (dinosaur with a skull head), 15 (because it fills an easy niche), 17 (Holleye), and 19 (dinosaur with a snow hat).
The ones marked with orange, uh, marks could be workable if edited a bit.
THE REST ARE RUBBISH. UGH.

When the game's finally playable (which shouldn't be too far in the future), I'll be running weekly 'Design A Monster' contests, where artists can submit their designs for new monsters to add to the game! As well as relieving me of design work, it'll be a great opportunity for people to exercise their creativity and influence a growing fictional world! Or something!
Before that can really work, though, I'll need to decide on what the accepted *design style* would be like... I mean, Pokemon and Digimon, for example, have clear and distinct design styles to them, which tend to be consistent between every monster design. I'll need to decide what this game's style should be to prevent the monsters looking like they're from entirely different universes. Or something.

Well, I hope that mixing the original ideas from Miasmon and Programon will work, because I believe (and I hope) that merging two similar ideas from two games could help you create a game with lots of different monsters, and lots of interesting characters and their cool stories. Also, I like your other games, so I hope that I will like this new one, too. ^_^ That's why I believe it's going to be a good game.

I am really curious to see what people will create if there will be a "Design a Monster" contest. o_O But, I really love all of these little monsters that you have posted. My favorite ones are number 9, 6, 19 and 8. (But, in my opinion, numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 11, 17 and 18 are also cute!). I hope you might add all of these lovely monsters to the game! :3

I like #9. It looks nice and has quite some potential for evolutions.

If 12 is too similar to Luvdisc, 15 might be too similar to Bukamon

Hmm, I can see the resemblance to Bukamon, but I'd hope that I'd be able to get away with it because the body plan isn't the same... And I'd also hope that fewer people would be familiar with Bukamon; I know of a whole lot of Digimon due to it having a big place in my life, but I had to look up Bukamon to see how it looked.

I'd try to change the hair/comb colour to be sure, but since there aren't many distinct traits, I guess it should be ok... I guess any small thing with a saurian head, a pointy tail and that colour scheme looks pretty much alike.
Bukamon wasn't featured often, I only noticed because my memory is freaky like that. I had to look up the name though.

I like quite a lot of them, so let me just run through the list:
2. The "improved" version you posted earlier was cute Loved the pun there as well.
3. Cool, especially with the color gradually changing with each segment; A good essent, simple but striking.
5. New take on a "old" idea, kind of; lightning jellyfish, but with a visually interesting and appealing design.
7. While not one of my favourites I liked the combination of the Ankh and the dragon. Helps that it looks cute as well.
8. As above, I liked the originality of the design more than the design itself, but the final colored one looked like it could turn into something interesting.
11. Cute and simple, perfect for an essent
13. One of my favourites on the page, enough said.
14. Loved the idea, and the creature looks cute but evil/mischievous. A design I'd like to play with.
15. One word--cute. Seems like it would be one of the monsters very early on in the game.
18. The pastely colors help the design and the "frostiness"; another interesting one I'd like to have.
19. Loved the idea, one of the cutest here, but not sure if I'd actually catch it o.o

I'm sorry if you actually read through this, since it was probably a waste of your time, but I had a hard time picking out those that "appeal to you more than the rest" D:

I appreciate comments like this, because it's very, very useful to know what people think!
I think I'm going to include that glowbug thing, for example, because several people have said they like it; if they hadn't, I probably would have discarded it. And it gives me more motivation to refine the designs knowing that people like them at least somewhat! So thank you!

I've been working on a separate site for this game to run on, and I'll be running the contests there! I've yet to release the site though, so I'll talk about it more when it's ready!

I'm just going to start by saying that the Dinosaur with a snow hat made me go D'AWWWWW. That thing is so adorable I cannot even. I have lost the ability to even.

Your second design for 18 (Insectoid/Frost) looks a LOT like Volcarona from Pokemon [link] , was that intended or accidental?

I really like 11 (Insectiod/Light), I think it's very cute. I'm also a fan of 25, the Tinysaur, because DINOSAURS. And the design for 7 (Draconic/Light, not sure what name you're settling on) is interesting, I'd like to see what it turns into. I love dragons; they're like... winged, fire-breathing dinosaurs. With extra awesome. Unless I go with my usual plant-type thing (people underestimate grass-type pokemon... Grass-types are awesome), I think I'd probably wind up training mostly draconic and saurian critters, with a few exceptions (seriously, that glow-bug is cute).

I really like the Design-a-monster idea! I'll definitely have to look into that, once it's up and running. I love designing critters

I thought that snowy moth was looking too much like Volcarona when designing it (though I gave it wings like that to be reminiscent of a snowflake, rather than to copy Volcarona)... just like I thought the love fish was looking too much like Luvdisc, and I also wondered how many people would see the sunfish thing and, having seen Alomomola but never a real sunfish, would assume I was copying Pokemon!
It's so hard designing monsters for a game like this and NOT having similarities to Pokemon! It's like an extra obstacle in the way or something.

I'm surprised that that glowbug thing stands out at all! I was on the fence about whether to develop the idea, but I suppose I'll go with it if it's appealing!

I like a bunch of these! Especially 2, 3, 6, 8, 11, 13, 17, 18, and 19! If I had to pick one, I'd probably be a bit stuck between 2, 6, 11, and 17.... And they're all really cute!

Although it isn't cute and simple as the other Essent forms are, I like the idea of a boat being a construct/water type. And I can see people laughing when they are walking through a sandy area and then suddenly a WILD BOAT wants to fight!!1!

Was 12 based on an actual type of fish? Its similarity to Luvdisc is only really in its shape and pinkness, really, and I like the design, even if it's similar. To me, it resembles Luvdisc about as much as your #13 resembles Shieldon and Cranidos...it's a fair stretch of the imagination.

Huh, I just noticed that 1's style and coloration makes it look like it could have drifted out of MARDEK'S Dreamrealm!

I don't dislike any of these, by the way, though I wasn't too excited about 4...and I did like the idea behind 10, though it took me a minute to see the concept behind it!

I think I like the idea of a boat monster more than the reality of actually trying to design one! Because it's apparently not an easy feat, that...

The love fish thing is based on a 'kissing fish', which interestingly has a sort of vaguely heart-shaped form anyway: [link]
I wonder if that's what Luvdisc was based on. My 'design' is basically just a stylised version of how they really look though; it's not exactly creative!

I think my favourite is the kissing fish.

Awesome work! I hope to see this game out in the future.

Btw, what will the final project be called?
