I'm surprised as to how quickly I did this... in about an hour or so.

Hopefully this pic comes out ok...

it is a rather expensive book. I bought mine from the origami house in japan (US Dollar transferred into Japanese Yen) but I found a slightly more local link. [link]

Good job, mine would've ended up as a crane somehow, lol

I had to use bullitin paper to manage that one. A 17x17" piece of paper.

enh... it's a po-ta-to/pa-ta-to sort of thing I think. I've seen it spelled so many different ways I don't even think there is an official spelling.

Well done! What kind of paper did you use? I can't get any that doesn't tear to shreds during the final steps. My next trial will be with Tissue Foil, but I need to wait for the weather to warm up a little before I can make any more.

I used the lightest weight 11x17 sheet of paper that I could find, changed it into a 11x11 sheet of paper and hoped to god. In all truth, the mouth DID rip a little... but I was able to cover that up. There's also a spot at the base of the tail that got worn down a little from the sweat on my hands.

I PREFER thick tissue paper or thin rice paper, but it's difficult for me to find that kind of paper in mass quantities. My mom was able to get some of the former, but that was because she works for 3M and they usued to use that sort of paper in between sheets of transpariency, but 3M is dropping transpariency production in favor of the new digital medias and projectors.

I've got a sheet of hand-made mulberry paper that I'm just dieing to wet-fold to make the Ancient Dragon. I just can't seem to work up the courage to attempt it until I'm a a little better with wet-folding.

Are there any diagrams or instructions for this one? i am very interested.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

psudodrake In reply to ayanamifan [2008-02-27 02:17:43 +0000 UTC]

the design from this comes from the collected works of Satoshi Kamiya from [link]

Origami House is an international headquarters for the art of Origami, and is ofcourse located in Japan. As a warning though, the origami that you get from their collected books are of an exceedingly high level of detail and difficulty, some of which I find difficulty in doing.

The Great Dragon, The Bahumat and the Yellow bird (Kweh) are all from the book listed in the link above.

anyway, what does Bahumat mean?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

psudodrake In reply to victortky [2008-02-26 07:12:13 +0000 UTC]

The Bahumat - this model ala Final Fantasy 8 - is a legend of the Orient. He is the king of all dragons - or so I understand it - and the legend is thankfully public domain so anyone and everyone can use the term/name Bahumat to describe the king of dragons.

As an example, Final Fantasy 7 utelized Bahumat, Bahumat Zero, and Bahumat Neo as possible summons.

I see. thanks for the data. i like the way how you folded the wings and the face.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

psudodrake In reply to victortky [2008-02-27 02:23:52 +0000 UTC]

The face lacks detail that are in the folding instructions due to how small I had to fold it, but I'm pretty happy with it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

victortky In reply to psudodrake [2008-02-27 02:26:00 +0000 UTC]

but if you have such the patience and time to do it...that was excellent work...

Now, if you can just fold out any one of your own dragons...
