Purple-Taliesyn — The matter with Lorne

Description The notorious Trial by Combat scene from NWN2, as interpreted by yours truly . Thank the gods Lorne's beserker attack has run its course! Matilda's whirlwind attack has the hulking Beserker off-balance. Moments later, a slash to the side and a pierce to the lung sends Lorne to his knees. He dares Matilda to kill him. She does, neatly decapitating him with her scimitars.

Overall, the drawing is OK -- there are some elements I like and others...well, that could be better. But, I'm all out of mojo on this pic and decided it is good enough to post.

Lorne and his useless body belongs to Obsidian. Matilda is mine, all mine

Primarily drawn with HB, 2B, mechanical pencil and 6B. Some digital work in the background.

The wonderful textures are from:

You're very funny, Gadget Sun

When I had Casavir fight Lorne, I gave him lots of buffs, hit him when Lorne was not in beserker mode and then ran away from him. It's pretty tough. My OC, Matilda, fared much better due to her high dexterity. Lorne's blade often missed her.

Your poor bard best stay in the seats

When you have Casavir in the arena, have you done most of the side quests for experience points? It is one tough fight (needs lots of health potions). You must have beaten Lorne at some point...what did you do then?

She seems to be on the way down from her jump, and Lorne's blade is carried by its momentum, leaving him exposed. Very dynamic drawing

Very well drawn, I admire such talent you've expressed into this!! Absolutely wonderful texture along with fine toning, the image clear to see with well-shaded outlines. The creativity is great as intended, and I am impressed with this!! Well done, 10/10 of course!!

The way the art itself flows with such a formality that causes passion to overflow through my body when I see this...it's breath taking...Well done indeed and this was without a doubt considered as "Art". Not to mention overall it's such a wonderful inspiration this drawing gives me! So detailed along with a great moral sense of value, delightful scenery added with details beyond mere words! I truly value this a lot, very well expressed and high quality into the characters themselves. Even an interesting touch of some vivid coloring.

Wow. I am speechless. Thanks for the wonderful remarks. As I mentioned in my description, I'm not entirely happy with it (the background is barely passable. I got tired working on it without it really improving.

This is the nicest compliment I have gotten about my drawings. Thank you again.

Thanks, Fomalhaut. The flask on the ground is the ritual flask from Casavir given to her the night before at the Temple of Tyr. I drew a pic here : [link]

Matilda drank the contents to heal herself (she has a nasty gnash on the other side of her hip) but dropped the bottle as Lorne took another swing at her with his falchion. By this time, Matilda has recovered from her wounds, dodges Lorne's swing and goes into a whirlwind attack. Unfortunately for Lorne, he's fatigued since his beserker attack has worn off.

No worries about the bottle, though. Matilda recovers it and places it in her pouch for safe-keeping.

Just a question: is Matilda a fighter? (That's good for the battle... mine was a rogue, but strangely enough she defeated Lorne at the first try, while Casavir dide 3 times before winning when I sent him in instead!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Purple-Taliesyn In reply to Fomalhaut48 [2010-11-17 01:37:32 +0000 UTC]

Matilda is a ranger, specializing in dual-wielding. She's high in dexterity, probably like your rogue, and is therefore, able to avoid most of the hits from Lorne. Hence, the reason your rogue survived the battle and Casavir did not. For Casavir to beat Lorne, he needs to wear very protective armor and try to avoid Lorne by running around the arena.

Thalia-Dawnbringer [2010-11-14 21:39:52 +0000 UTC]

Whoa... ! This is totally wicked and epic, Taliesyn! Lorne looks pretty deflated after his Berserker attack has just run out - a little disoriented too . And here comes Matilda for the win ; I absolutely love the way you drew the Whirlwind attack. Awesome job!

By the way, is that a certain ritual flask I see lying on the ground ?

Purple-Taliesyn In reply to Thalia-Dawnbringer [2010-11-14 21:46:11 +0000 UTC]

Much obliged, Thalia! I had a fun time drawing Lorne & Matilda. Drawing the background got tedious, however, and I just wanted to finish up the pic.

Oh, yes, on the ground is the handy ritual bottle. Nothing wrong with a little continuity between drawings, right?

Thalia-Dawnbringer In reply to Purple-Taliesyn [2010-11-14 21:58:20 +0000 UTC]

Backgrounds are tough, but I think you did an amazing job with the background in this drawing .

Lol, of course there's nothing wrong with a little continuity between drawings . It's a nice little reference to the preceding picture, and in some ways, it shows that a certain someone is watching over Matilda

Purple-Taliesyn In reply to Thalia-Dawnbringer [2010-11-14 23:44:35 +0000 UTC]

Heh. I lose patience with backgrounds; it's funny that I find it so much more interesting drawing strands of hair of a character than drawing similar lines for a concrete block!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Thalia-Dawnbringer In reply to Purple-Taliesyn [2010-11-15 00:43:42 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I feel the same way . Sometimes I get very annoyed with drawing backgrounds - especially if it makes my markers run dry or I smudge the picture with my hand - very messy; most of my drawings or sketches are focused around one (sometimes more) characters on a white background.
