The only problem I ever had with Dead Money, besides not being able to go back even though your Pip Boy should've marked the place, is that nobody cares you dissapeared. Your companion's are probably in love with you, and you're the single greatest threat to everybody's stake in Vegas...why does nobody care you're missing, and why didn't Dog bring any of your companions with you if he gassed both of you. Hell...why doesn't your companion wonder where the fuck you went?

You could play it off if you had a particularly gung-ho courier who often runs off to do shit without telling anyone. Although you'd probably still be gone a good while.
I kind of justified it to myself by figuring you told everyone you were off to investigate this weird radio signal and they just think you're doing that, but yeah, I would've liked some sense that the world without you noticed your absence (you are the most important person in Nevada, after all)
