she feels sad to me, sad that someone would try and make people stay on the cold, dead stone that's so hard to walk on, rather than the living warm, carpet of grass which is so natural for us.

this is beautify done!l

Thank you, it's rather old but still one of my personal favorites.
Different people have interpreted her expression different ways,
it's always interesting to see what people take from that enigmatic face.

yes I enjoyed reading the other comments,
I like comparing other's "take" on a piece compared to mine.

Hmm, you said some reactions were that she looks bitchy, some say smug. I think a combination of happy, tired, and rebellious.

Or maybe she just can't read.

She can read. Look at that smug expression. She's daring anyone to complain.

Well rebellious or daring, kinda similar. How do you know she can read? Nothing in the photo says that. If she'd held a book, then yeah. Or, maybe she just liked to carry a book.

Her expression tells me so.

OK, I believe you. Btw, what is the story behind the "found photo"? Was it found, such as in your own collection? Or, like, out on street or of someone else's family?

It was tucked in an old book we bought at a yard sale, a couple towns over.

There is a vid... *trying to think which friend*... Oh, think it was on Eileen's youtube? It's about people who actually go to auctions and fairs that sell old photographs. Let me see if I can find that vid, you'd enjoy it. brb...mebbe

Me back. Here's the vid. Hopefully I didn't already share it with you in a note. [link]

I love old photos, myself. Especially with writing on them (as in the vid). I don't know that I'd want to purchase and collect them, but I could spend hours and hours just browsing and enjoying. Mom had tons. My brother took all of them right before Mom died. Trying to convince him to share. I haven't seen most of them in years, and some albums not at all.

Thanks! She gets different reactions from people--some think she looks bitchy and some think she's smug.
the background, yeah, I had to think of it as so many micro-drawings so it didn't scare me

I looked at your stuff; you're a fantastic portrait artist.
