oh, no comparison really, your work is alive with color and beautiful images.
But thank you, it does require patience, sometimes more than I have.

I was showing my girlfriend your work here last night and she aggreed with me that your work is far better than mine but I did notice drawings like this that I hadnt seen before, this is great, a really nice illustration, I like how u did the grass bits coming out of the snow and the different tombstones slanting one way or another. kind of haunting and atmospheric with the mist and the dark shapes of trees, would be great to see you do more like this!

pyrrhite In reply to subedei [2010-10-27 15:16:01 +0000 UTC]

...your girlfriend agreed..?

this argument is getting old, my lad.

but I'm glad you like this one, it's a favorite of mine. I would love doing more cemeteries.

yep my girlfriend is a bit too honest at times , no arguement here, u just kick my arts arse . I would say this one is one of your strongest, its very illustrative, says alot, there is a story and emotion and mood going on that you can feel when u look at it

pyrrhite In reply to subedei [2010-10-30 23:33:56 +0000 UTC]

I thank you yet again, my friend.
This is one of my personal favorites, as it has several elements
I love--mist, bare trees, old graves.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

subedei In reply to pyrrhite [2010-11-05 00:04:46 +0000 UTC]

cool, would be a cool series to see something focusing on them, especially with alot of these old graveyards disappearing

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pyrrhite In reply to subedei [2010-11-05 08:44:58 +0000 UTC]

Are they disappearing in Ireland? Not here in Vermont. They are usually pretty well-maintained and protected. Of course we can spare the space.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

subedei In reply to pyrrhite [2010-11-12 23:52:31 +0000 UTC]

nah we have plenty here, ireland is one of the places that keeps its graves, but there are places on the mainland europe, like germany, where after 50 years they put more earth over the grave and then bury another layer of people, suppose it saves space

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pyrrhite In reply to subedei [2010-11-14 13:22:22 +0000 UTC]

I suppose it does! You have to do something after thousands of years.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

subedei In reply to pyrrhite [2010-11-19 00:40:59 +0000 UTC]

aye, especially I suppose in germany with all their war dead from the two World Wars, well supppose its always been that way for the germans, thats what sucks about being in the centre and surrounded and all sides by other races, makes u a bit hostile. Suppose geography decides so much of our history and characters.

pyrrhite In reply to subedei [2010-11-19 04:45:08 +0000 UTC]

Oh that's very true. That and the French is why the US is an independent nation.
And why nobody can quite tackle Afghanistan.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

subedei In reply to pyrrhite [2011-01-04 17:10:39 +0000 UTC]

aye the Russians tried Afghanistan, the British did too in the glory days of their empire (also one of the big mistakes that they decided to go back again, any Afghani that knows his history will just think the empire is back again), and both failed, about the only one who was partly successful was Alexander the Great, tho not sure how long it lasted after he died.

I love old cemeteries, too. And might I add that your drawings from old photographs are very haunting, too. "Somebody's Sister" is beautiful, but it gave me a shiver. It's like looking at a ghost.

pyrrhite In reply to lackasleep [2010-09-16 12:14:23 +0000 UTC]

I suppose it is looking at a ghost really, as she can't be present any other way now. Lovely comments, thank you.

Excellent drawing, I feel as if I could step right into it. I love all the little details on the grave stones, and the grass especially must have taken a lot of patience!

Grass, yes! It's amazing to me, grass seems as if it should be quite easy but it always is a challenge in the end.

Fates-Broken-Wings [2010-05-20 07:27:03 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely fantastic.

I have an off obsession with old/abandoned cemeteries/hospitals/institutions, so naturally I love seeing work like this. It's not very often that I find a piece of traditional art like this, though! The detail is superb! I love that you used mostly graphite, yet we can still see a hint of color in certain parts. It's a lovely effect.

I'm envious of your attention to detail! Great work.

pyrrhite In reply to Fates-Broken-Wings [2010-05-20 12:36:49 +0000 UTC]

Hi, thanks again! I like old/abandoned just about anything. Where I live there are many old cemeteries, and you can still find delicious old farmhouses, more frequently just the barns, now and then. From photos I have seen here abandoned institutions have such powerful, strange atmosphere. Creepy and intriguing.

Thanks so much for your comments. I appreciate it a great deal.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pyrrhite In reply to philippeL [2010-03-10 14:39:54 +0000 UTC]

It's a pencil drawing with a base of colored pencil in the grass and a little bit of color in the flag as well.
It's drawn from a photograph I took of a local very old cemetery.
I'm happy you like it, thank you Philippe.
