Description Eurhinosaurus longirostris again. This one came before the other version I've shown, qilong.deviantart.com/art/What… , but had some problems that I've corrected to produce the "open mouth, closed mouth" pair. Some details differ between the two, but this gives you an idea how the jaws differ in size so extremely when the jaw is opened. The thing is, the retroarticular process is long, and implies the jaw could open much wider, and that seems an adaptation for ram-suction, much like modern billfish (marlin, swordfish, sailfish, etc.). so this would be a potential high-speed pelagic all-around consumer. The teeth may have been functional, but only as far as the mandible, for eating; the rest, may have been used for almost anything.

I assume this is a pterosaur, correct?

Well, by the shape of the skull I kinda thought it was a pterosaur. But, oh well.

It is superficially similar, in gross shape, but that's one of the reasons I like drawing them.

Great reconstruction!Β  Did all eurhinosaurids have dentition like this or did it vary in the other genera?

They all had small, simple, conical and slightly fluted teeth.

How large is this skull? ~2 meters?

McGowan described two seemingly mature skulls at around .8 and 1.02 meters, respectively. So long nose, but not really big.

So the oft quoted 6-7 meter length for this animal is probably exaggeration? (I got the ~2 meter guess by estimating skull length as around β…“ body length.)

Well, the measurement is based on the holotype and a referred specimen from the type locality. Eurhinosaurus is known from Germany as well, and there are much larger specimens, but I don't have exact measurements. The body can get to around 4 m, so I'd assume the skull can get much larger. But again, no exact measurements.
