I just saw that scene and yes it was even more heartbreaking with it. I guess they were trying to do a "show don't tell" thing with this scene.

I guess so. Even without it, I still can see it in that scene.

I know! I love Nuka. He was bad but he was still such a darling. At least they showed the scene with the other deleted parts I guess...

As a kid I didnt put much weight into the fact Nuka dies. But now as an adult I find it heartbreaking to see how Zira fails her children and how the oldest one only wanted her affection and attention. No one is born bad.

Same here.... I admit that I'm even feeling annoyed every time I see him in a movie when I was a kid.
But after get through life and see it through grown-up eyes.
I was like.
shit... this guy IS totally pitiful.
Seeing how she treat her other kids kinda okay, and then she yelled and abused at her oldest son like he's nothing to her is heartbreaking.
His death is because he just tries to get his mother's attention.... ;(

Hhhh this is so amazingly done ;w;
I looked at the scene and then through the comments to see what other people felt, and I think this was my favorite comment:
"It's less about "leaving bad impressions on kids" and more that the delivery just doesn't have as much weight to it with the extra explanation. "I'm sorry mother, I tried" as his dying words was really all that was needed to convey just how desperately he wanted his mother's approval, at least to those who can infer (i.e. adults) the background. To children, it probably wouldn't have as much weight no matter what; it was a bad guy who died, and that's sad, but when you do bad stuff, bad stuff happens to you. To adults, it was simply a child who wanted his mother to love him, not to mention that he grew up in a harsh environment in general..."

Thank you ;---;
And that comment also touches me very much...
Grew up in a harsh environment is cruel, but living a life that you always seeking for love and there's no love back but only get toxic words and reactions are even crueler...

it really would have shown just how much their mother's neglect affected, and how it was his mother's fault he died, because he was pushing himself so hard to please her and get something kind from her...

One of the saddest (if not the saddest) Disney deaths in my opinion. I like that you added tears in his eyes, you can hear them in his voice in the deleted part…
Although I personally find the movie version to be more powerful, because his last words to Zira were an apology for not being good enough. It shows that he wasn’t entirely selfish like some people in the fandom claim, he already got what he wanted, but he still apologized for not getting her what she wanted.

I'm wonder that who could clam that Nuka is selfish while the entire movie show us that he's only a son who want to impress his mother and got those kind of thought by Zira's bad parenting...... he's just a poor kid.
I agree too that his apologized is powerful scene. But if they add the part that showing Nuka seeking for his mother attention is truly saddest scene in the movie and will make him one memorable disney character for sure.
We see him as silly lion character since he was a cub. But after that deleted scene... I just couldn't help but feel truly sorry for him living without love and seeking for his whole life. I just can not see him the same way I used to.

For some reason I see this interpretation a lot, and, well, it’s their opinion, but I strongly disagree. It’s true that he wanted to get his mother’s love and ‘bigger’ goals weren’t really on his mind, but he died trying to get what should have been there from the start. And even then, we see how caring he is, he’s malnourished, but gives food to his mother, and in one scene sort of tries to tell Vitani that she also deserves better. It’s clear that he would have had a lot of good qualities if he was treated better…
It’s true that this deleted part really drives home how much he needed his mother’s affection and how much he was willing to sacrifice for it, but I think that in the movie version, it’s all still there, just more subtle. He yells that he’s doing it for her, asks “are you watching?”… His deleted last words are pretty much his entire story arc, summed up and spelled out explicitly
I agree, absolutely. I think his entire arc in the movie was written like that (even without the deleted part), we first don’t think much of him besides “funny bad guy character”, but then his death scene makes us look back and reconsider all other scenes with him. It’s seen that he’s treated cruelly, constantly yelled at, his mother hits him and hurts him for no reason, and he’s disrespected by everyone else. But despite that, he’s loyal – more loyal than Kovu was in the end, he did everything he could for his mother. His story arc is just extremely bleak and upsetting.
