And so Avatar DOES have like a solid ending then? Stories like that are always so much more special to me because they truly have a beginning, a middle, and an end, and don't seem to be trailing off to nowhere just for the sake of keeping fans or something. *cough Naruto cough*

I'm in the same boat. I hate getting into an anime, or manga series, that will have me spending more than a college education to keep up with the story.
And yes, the series has a solid ending in my opinion. And if you liked the few episodes you've seen, the whole series is worth the money. Or you can see if your library carries DVD's to check out.
