As a user who got in trouble on here a long while back for copyright related issues...i'd like to say that the whole copyright thing is contradictory and confusing. If the site's rules say copyrighted imagery and such isn't allowed..then how come there are so many of that thing on the front page and such? And wouldn't fan-fiction/fan-art qualify too as being against the rules? I mean Fanfiction.net has a rule that says that stories based on real people aren't allowed...would the same apply here as well?

Here's something interesting I got regarding copyright:
I asked YouTube user dashwarts (That's the exact spelling) if it's legal to make and sell original music using Super NES soundchips.
Here was his response:
"It should be, as people who use keyboards to compose music they sell and photographers who use cameras to take pictures they sell are well within their legal rights."
Then I asked him if that should be the case for all video game platforms. Here was his response:
"It should be. Just make sure that when you're doing stuff on the SNES that you're not pumping through a sound effect that's already copyrighted for more than 25% of the song. (Using multiple copyrighted sound effects with the same 25% rule on each one is OK.) On PSG and synthesis systems (eg. Genesis, Commodore 64 SID, NES), you can probably get away doing whatever you want for the instruments."
So based on what he has told me, is it legal to use the instrument samples of video game platforms to make and sell original music?
Keep in mind that it's not like I'm making music that uses the 1-Up or Fire Flower sound effects from Super Mario Bros. I'm of course talking about the musical instrument samples they used to compose there music.
What do you think of daswharts' perspective? Do you agree with what he's said, or do you disagree with his perspective?

I totally agree on the copyright points you made, but I don't support the blocking or right-click. Maybe I'm just being petty, but I hate it when I go to open a link in a new tab/window/etc and I can't because right-click is blocked.

Right click blocking is an ugly Javascript hack, and there is no reliable way to prevent the source of a page being viewed; it -has- to be viewable by the browser to be rendered, so is always always possible for people to get at the source.
Copyright is all very well, but is it -really- worth defacing your work just to prevent 'theft'? Because that's the -only- way you'll ever prevent people from being able to use your images if you put them online.
Why does it even bother people so much if their work is 'stolen'?

A right click block would be brilliant.
Like your own option that you can choose in your settings, so you can block right-clicking on your pictures and avatar and shizz.
It's a great stamp, totally using it if and when I get a subby.

It's a shame really, that people feel they must steal everything they see. Can't they just appreciate the originals?
Adding to my shoutbox of stampiness.
