Turnaround here [link]

I didn't get to document the entire process, as i had to complete it before the 22nd December, while starting on it a mere week in advance.
So there are some major skips in the process, at any rate i hope it is of interest to see the development.

1. The base was completed and cured, the armature posed right, and the ongoing work of defining the anatomical buildup.

2. Working on the facial features, mixing the OoT version with the TP version.

3. Done with the face, added beard and the baggy pants seen in TP.

4. Close up of the facial Features, a little too bright, and the Super Sculpey might hide some of the topography of the surface, due to the translucent properties.

5. Cut and filed down the sword in Copper, and started working on the leg armor.

6. A little more contrast filled view of the face.

7. The anatomical buildup of the back (note that I didn't use any references so they're very inaccurate. )

8. A sudden jump to the completed sculpt and base paint.

9. Using a spray paint to cover the majority of the sculpture, leaving some areas unpainted, had to live with some of them due to the deadline.

And after that there's only photos of the completed one.

what did you use for the base, the same clay?

holy crap! this is incredible! How did you manage to sculpt such fine details with polymer clay? D: D: D:

Details is a matter of using the proper tools to achieve the desired effect!

He he, you're not the first to state a desire for this sculpture

Anyways, thanks a lot, appreciate the interest!

You're welcome D: I try to use polymer clay and all I get is mostly tonnes of frustration...

Would you mind me asking how you rendered the beard? 8D

Ragaru In reply to Sorelliena [2012-05-06 13:49:49 +0000 UTC]

It may indeed cause frustration, this sculpture for instance, had his sword hand breaking of, and ultimately the armature broke off from the base which.. Well ended up with me having to impale his feet with steel wires, and place them into holes drilled into the base... Sometimes you never know what might happen.

The beard came to shape by applying bits of clay to the face, then smoothen them into the face surface, then iused 2 types of needles, one sharpand one rounded, and just carve and shape as you'd feel to be right.
Then I used a sof brush to get rid of loose bits and irregularities, and then i went over with a sponge to smoothen it out, though I would've used isopropanol to chemically smoothen it out, but I didn't have any at hand at that time.

D: Ganondorf proves uncooperative once again... I'm glad he turned out well in the end, though, it must be satisfying to see him done 8)

I've never heard of isopropanol so I'll go google it... never knew you could chemically smooth polymer clay!

Ragaru In reply to Sorelliena [2012-05-07 12:18:05 +0000 UTC]

Indeed he did, and the result didn't turn out as well as I planned, nor did the paintjob, but at this scale and with the short time frame i had to complete it within.. it was the best I could do

It's basically an ethanol consistent liquid, and alcohol has the same effect on polymer clay as water has on organic clay, but for the best results it should be about 91% alcohol, if not you need to brush it(or use q-tip) several times to get the desired effect, just so you know

Ragaru In reply to dasAdam [2012-03-05 20:45:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it just popped up from a heap of polymer clay.. all of a sudden, you should have seen it man!
Even a piece of copper just cut itself out and became a sword, wicked I say
And in the blink of an eye it was all black, then it got a cape and flew away in many colors!

The truth aside, Thanks my friend!

Aye, that be the "Kethronian Lizard Warrior" I was talking about!

Just with some clay added and smoothed out while defining the sub musculature.

Don't know when I'll get it done though
How's your sculpting going by the way?
Also I just saw your painting study, at first i stumbeled over the boots, thought they were a photo layer, impressive I must say!

Thank You Adam Sir!
Still need to refine my techniques, though, but more will come by February.

Currently planning a LEGO Zelda Project, for the LEGO Cuusoo concept [link] hoping to bring an official line based upon it.
Chances are of course rather low, but I have faith in a well done presentation reaching out to the true fans of LEGO and the Zelda series, being able to round up a 10,000 vote mark and make it a reality(which a LEGO minecraft recently did)!

After being told: "Have you any idea how f****** awesome this is?!", I'd say it's a clear indication of a well received Christmas present.

And how has your Christmas been?

Then i get the letter telling me... it has been nullified due to some morob cheating... so there's a new one in january... it's the 5 i take since 2009... Yes i am tired and really start hating maths now, but i wouldn't mind facing the cheater in a saber duel... HE'D FEEL MY WRATH!

how did u made that armor?!?!??

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ragaru In reply to llad [2011-12-27 01:32:39 +0000 UTC]

I used Polymer Clay and shaped some of them in with my hands, the rest i cut out from a thin layer of the clay and applied to the sculpture, the pattern ornaments you see on the armor plates were made using a needle to carve an impression.
