The name Melinoë means "Dark Thought" and despite the meaning she does not carry darkness in its entirety.
It is said that the god of Olympus impersonated his brother Hades in order to seduce Persephone in the river Styx, giving birth to this goddess.

Being Persephone the queen of the underworld and Zeus the brilliant leader of Olympus, Melinoë obtained the main qualities of both, thus carrying the light of her father and the darkness of her mother, being half light and half darkness.

However, other older traditions give paternity to Persephone's husband, the god Hades, Melinoë being the second daughter of the kings of the underworld after Macaria. For this reason it was considered that darkness meant Hades, and Persephone light

Melinoë is the Greek goddess of nightmares and the Lady of the Ghosts.
Wander the Earth every night with ghosts, scaring everyone in their path. It was said that this was the reason why dogs apparently barked at anything at night.

She was raised in the underworld, learning to lead the ghosts that would accompany her at night when she was in the outside world, it was so until she was chosen as a pupil by the goddess Hecate and it was with her who she learned about the moon and witchcraft discovering in the latter a passion and constant interest, in addition to earning a good relationship with Hecate.
