Description Thought I'd try a different more cartoonish style. 17th of October 2012.

The names Mary and Poppin were half jokingly suggested by my brother. It's a combination of Mary Poppins and Merry and Pippin, with a bit of Popeye mixed in. I imagined Mary to be Poppin's (grand)daughter or niece while drawing this. I think I like the granddaughter idea most.

I had Poppin almost finished (color and shading and all) when I started sketching Mary, because I felt like drawing a teenage girl with modern equipment to contrast the old bulky man with his trusted shovel. At first I made the jackhammer bright red, but I thought a hard pink would be funnier.

The sketches I made for this are found in blue in this sketch dump . I only used a few reference pics, all pictures of jackhammers from Wikimedia for inspiration for the jackhammer's design.

Aww, you know I'm all over this! I'm so biased towards cartoons!

These characters are so cool! I love Poppin's huge boots. It does a great job of balancing out his big Popeye forearms. And Mary is so slick and cool. I love her pink-red jackhammer!! Haha if tools looked like that I'd be in the construction business!!!

This is totally rad!! LOVE THEM TO DEATH!

Glad you like them!

My brother does mechanical engineering at the uni (or was it industrial design?), I could maybe hide this design between his homework and hope for the best.
