Holy bananas Batman it’s finished!!This has been a side project to keep me busy instead of bored for the past few months. I finally sat down and told myself I was going to finish it and walla!!
A few things you might want to know:
Anatomy and proportions are off. The reason for this is because this is a realistic painting, not cartoonish. Therefore, a big difference.
I did not do this because I ship this couple (Okay, maybe a little). I drew this because it was a color and anatomy study. This was sort of a test for me I suppose. Care to critique me on it?
I also love how those two always tend to watch out for each other on missions, it’s adorable.I don’t know why Artemis looks hysterical, she just ended up that way. Her bow and quiver are gone so I guess something is going down. In the picture, Kid just saved her from being fried alive by an unknown enemy, and is trying to calm her down (which is odd since Artemis is usually tough). My creative juices ran out early, and I didn’t come up with an explanation as to why they are in this situation. Feel free to use this as a visual prompt. (send me a note though)

I'm pretty sure this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
I'm not an artist in anyway, so I couldn't tell you what is artisitcally wrong with your picture.

Oh, wow, this is really impressive!
The main thing that looks a little off here is that Wally and Artemis look like they have the same texture, all over. And it works for their clothes and even their skin, but then their facial features and hair look sort of fuzzy. I don't really know how you paint so I'm not entirely sure how to give you advice for that, but I think that something that might help would be to use a harder brush, at least around the edges, so that their edges are more defined. Sharpening the edges would also help fix the way Wally's back and left arm sort of look like one big thing.
Also, hair isn't one big blob made of little fluffy strands stuck together. The strands flow and go in different directions and fly apart, especially after what looks like a really strenuous situation. I totally get that their hair in the cartoon is hard to translate into realism, but maybe you could look for reference images that are close to what you think they'd look like if they were real.
Anatomy-wise, Wally's head looks big, compared to his body and Artemis's head. It's a common mistake, and something that I have to work on myself. Again, I don't know how you go about drawing, but when you're sketching it out, start with their heads first. Make sure they're pretty much the same size, and then go on to their bodies. Also, Artemis's eyes look really close together here. If you'll look at this stock image, [link] you'll see that the eye closest to the viewer should be a little further away from the nose. In front view, as a general rule, the space between a person's eyes is the same length as one eye. This space changes a little bit in 3/4 view, but you can use the same rule to check yourself. Artemis's eyes also don't look like they're lined up, so maybe you could use horizontal guidelines across her face to keep them on the same line. The arrow on her chest also looks like it could be shifted a little bit to our left.
I really love your choice in colors, but the hue of the highlights on Wally and Artemis look sort of cool. With flames all around them like that, the highlights should be yellowish-orange in color, and the shadows could be a little cooler. Right now, it sort of looks like Robin is shining one of those digital computer screens at them.
I like the way you shaded Wally's face, especially his cheekbone. His face looks really great.
I ADORE the background. The one here looks absolutely wonderful, with the texture of the brick wall and the mortar. I like how it comes out of focus in the corner, like smoke. Backgrounds aren't a skill that a lot of people have, myself included. This one is amazing.

Have you had a chance to see the most recent episode, "Failsafe"? Because,
[[SPOILERS FOR FAILSAFE]]
In a virtual reality training event, Wally watches Artemis "die", and he has a bit of a huge freak out.
So, I can see this being a mission after that event, they're all shaken up, and Artemis is left like O_o "whut why are you protecting me like this." And Wally's all like "I saw you die once, I'm not going to lose you again!"
I don't know, that's just where my brain went.

Okay, since you want to know why I'm faving, Wally just looks so hot! (That's kinda what first got my attention - the bright yellow. Once I actually clicked it, though, the whole thing just looked so amazing.)
