for an art assignment we had to draw something involving the words "insect" and "fate".
Since insects are a big part of the Earth and it's ecosystem, I figured that they were tied to one another. The fate of the world lies in the hands of the insects, and flies were a big chunk of that. Yes flies are annoying and they're all gross and stuff touching your food all the time like GET AWAY but they also help keep our Earth pretty clean. They do all the hard work of decomposing all our waste/dying bodies so that the world can keep going, and are also pollinators of many plants. In my mind flies are like army soldiers, doing hard and dangerous(in our perspective) work that help keeps our world in balance. Flies are fighting a war against global deterioration.

I'm not sure what message this picture gives off, but I thought of it as a darker scene in my head. It could be seen as a statement about duty, but for me it's more like a resignation. The leaves attached in the helmet are supposedly dead( though idk if i did a good job making it look like that;; ) to represent a dying Earth and ecosystem form the great amounts of pollution we emit each day. Flies, as much as they do, do not have the ability to adapt very effectively. As the world gets more and more polluted, and global warming rates increase, the world will become an environment for which the flies we need in our everyday lives may disappear. The gas mask is also a symbol that they're already working in areas of dangerous substances,like gear that soldiers would wear in a war; it was also a representation of the fly face. Adding onto the pollution flies are already working through could lead to a sentence of death. The quote "It's been a pleasure serving you Mother Earth" isn't a colloquial salute, it's a salute for the resignation of global duty.
