Description A little watercolour picture for practice.
Inspired by a book about watercolour landscapes by Joe Francis Dowden. For the moon and the reflection, I used liquid frisket (masking liquid) so it's only the white paper that shines through. It's the best white you can get.

_____________

The moons shine on the water could be maybe a bit more detailed, but I love it!

Oh, do practice! but only so we can see more of your talented work! I love your use of monochromatic blue shades here, from the dark of the tree trunk to the rough foreground fading to smooth sided hills across the lake.

I feel very honoured by your words. I have to admit that this is not an original idea, though. It's almost a copy of the painting by J. F. Dowden, but I changed a few things, as I always do when I'm painting from photos or other artwork.
I have some more nice landscape paintings in my gallery, by the way.

Ah, yes, you do have lovely landscapes. I think your winter scenes are the best, but then I love stark beauty.

Thank you! I have some more nice winter landscapes to submit. I painted them for Christmas because my sister requested them. She likes winter settings, too.

This is how I would like to be able to use watercolours. I like the limited palette, the peace and stillness evoked, and that pale halo around the moon. So lovely!

I was still practising some techniques when I made this.

I love how bright and lifelike the moonlight feels. The reflection on the water is particularly intense, and has the right look and feel for it bouncing off water. And the light from the moon itself as its diffused by the atmosphere is a distinctly different look for the moonlight that contrasts with the reflections on the water and on the ground, adding to the believability of the pic. I love how you paid attention to the details in how the moonlight will affect the different surfaces to make it all come together as an awesome scene.

I also like how moody the pic is. The landscape feels like it has emotions and personality in how the bright moon is against the dark sky, with the eerie, kinda uninviting shore next to the water. Very nice. : )

Thank you so much for your great comment!

I felt the same way when I saw the original painting by Joe Francis Dowden. I didn't actually copy it, but I tried to do something with the same mood.
