HDR, just gaving some fun!
Edit: I'm going to add some local sharpness and do some minor burn/dodge then update. The buildings seem too flat looking.

Beautiful HDR. I really like how you edited to avoid the overly saturated colors and unrealistic brightness that is sometimes distracting in HDRs. Very nice job

Well just experimentation but I like to under-tone in post process anyhow depending on the image. But although HDR is a very legitimate technique, the over-saturated and extremely vivid get stale.

Fine line and in general I avoid it (HDR) but it's all one one big experiment.

Actually I love black and white, always have and always will. But it's good to practice diversity since you never when you might need it.

I totally agree. You did a wonderful job on this though.

The only times where I think HDR is apropriate is when the detail on something is lost(like water versus sky, you rarely get the detail on both at the same time) and this is a perfect example.

Well HDR itself is a very valid technology if used correctly. It's based (loosely) an the Zone system (Ansel Adams) but the problem lies in the amount of saturation.

The best way is to meter (hand held not in camera) not the built in camera's metering. But unfortunately that isn't practical in so many cases but it's the tone-mapping and the amount of saturation/color temperature/luminosity that creates the snapshot art.

I have no problem with galleries that have some, but HDR and tone-mapped crazy galleries are eye catching, but a false representation of photography. I can see it's use in areas such as wallpaper/photo-manipulations as an element of it and in 3D HDRI maps are normal. But there is the separation that of use of properly or just as an effect.

In that case might as well have a category called photo plug-ins or whatever, and again - there are some that serve a valid function much like a darkroom technique and others that create something from nothing.

It's great to learn all of the aspects but not to rely on them much less use then as the main part of an image. But when digital cameras came out so did abuse/misuse. In my heart I'm a purist (film and full manual) and not knocking digital since it has many advantages.

In the end it's how it's used but like any other area, those that take whatever part of the graphics arena seriously the search to learn more will happen. At the same time no matter how it's done, in any form or fashion it is creativity.

So from that much good can come and if nothing else enjoyment, not the road I want to take but for the sake of learning it's good to know. Strange part is that since the art look attracts so many that don't know how false it is is the discouraging part (at least for me)..If I place a hand burned/dodged photo shot with film it usually gathers few views.

But I'll just keep doing what I want, since the reality of photography: it is art depending on the subject but from the commercial aspect no client has any need for artsy over-saturation. They want a representation that reflects their product or service so.......enough said. Long reply day I guess

It's a different view of the world I guess (shot from the train tracks) and a change o0f pace. Thanks

Really nice. I think bring all the shadow into light does seem to flatten the background objects. But it's a very unique effect.

I have about ten different variations and they all have different merits, but this was toward evening and I adjusted the color balance more to a warmer look.

Still a few areas of dodge and burn but I just like this variation so went with it. The rest are minor and really won't stand out or change the overall look..but also won't take long.

Just have to pick a time (it's night so getting sleepy) and I have to grab a new keyboard for computer..This one has seen it's day and keys keep sticking. Great for typos but that's all..

I really like this photo. Like you said it looks almost old fashioned, or almost like a painting. Great Shot.

Thanks, I liked the shot or as composed but am getting back in the mood to experiment.

In this one I liked the end result and the great part of experimentation is that a technique learned goes into the bag of tricks..

Thanks, there's something about that it seems old fashioned to me, I know part is the colors but think the buildings or maybe just the one that says shoe polish helps add to that,

I'm going to do a few minor adjustments but there is a look/feel that I like but really can't find the exact reason or explanation.

You will, I love diversity in a gallery and somewhere along the line I got off-track. Well I think I'm heading back to the path I enjoy!

that's what you should do : )Do the things you enjoy the most instead of doing what other people say : )
