Description "There's no limit to what he could do. He could destroy the Earth."

For those who don't know classic sci-fi, that is Gort, a galactic peacekeeper from the 1951 movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still." I've loved it since I was a wee lad, partly because Gort is so awesome!

I was gonna post a non-animated version, but it stays on the shot of him with his visor closed long enough anyway.

I sure wish that they will make a minifigure like this!

Aww. I want one! Gort is amazing.
This is my favorite movie.

They must kill Keanu Reeves...
For if not its not like the original.

Thanks! It took a long time to make, as I was still very new to animated gifs at the time, but I was pleased with the results.

I think I shuddered when I heard they were remaking it...then vomited in terror when I heard Keanu Reeves is involved. If I go see it, it'll be out of morbid curiosity more than anything. I wish they'd leave well enough alone.

Your most welcome! Its great. I can't do animation yet.

*Gasp* Then you shall see this amazing preview. I almost had a conniption and died. I Keanu Reeves I really do, but sometimes he makes me mad, like in the last Matrix, gahhh I hated that one.
But I think he's doing quite well in this one. With the whole Im a alien and such. Plus I was just glad that they wanted to make it like the original as much as possible with changes in the time period and stuff.
Plus they have Gort. And he's actually like OMG big.

I saw that 5 minute (something like that) preview they aired on Fox. I'm happy they didn't show too much, despite the length. It was...interesting, especially those sphere thingies. Reminded me more of War of the Worlds. I wouldn't have even known it was TDtESS if they hadn't said so!

Eek no war of the worlds. That was such a bad remake.

I haven't seen that one either. Ha!

Are there any good remakes?

Well hmm don't know, for sure. They make to many movies.

Ha watch this trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still. It pretty much blew my mind.

Yeah, that's the preview I saw. It did nothing for me, to be honest. If it didn't say that it was TDtESS, I wouldn't even know what it was. I just have this feeling it's going to be a typical over-the-top, foul language-laden, violent modern Hollywood movie. Like the Mission: Impossible movies, which have none of the spirit of the TV series.

See, the original TDtESS has been a favorite of mine for like 25 years, so I'm really skeptical about this new one, especially with Reeves in it. I was quite underwhelmed by The Matrix and haven't seen him in anything other than the Bill & Ted movies. (which I have always liked)

I have no idea who I'd get to "replace" Michael Rennie if I could do it. Liam Neeson, maybe?

I will probably go see it, though. And afterwards, we can discuss what we thought of it.

This one sort of freaked me out. I want to see the movie and all but deep down it wont replace the original. Not so sure on the whole uber violence and death, gotta have death.
Eeek Mission Impossible sucked. Tom Cruise should have stopped at that.

Yeah mine too. Though I have just recently actually per purchased the movie on DVD. I think that Keanu will do a decent job. Cant replace Michael Rennie( But hey he's dead). Don't know who Liam Neeson is.

Yes. Can't wait.

I haven't seen Liam Neeson in much, but he was in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Not a great movie, but he was good in it. He has a very calm, dignified presense about him, much like Rennie.

Ah he was Obi Wans mentor dude. Also in Batman Begins.

Hey, have you seen the remake now? If so, a sort of review I put on IMDB.com is below. I gave it 4/10. B'oh!

*spoilers*

"I thought it was just ok. I only paid around $4 to see it, so that's fine. Haha.

I am a huge fan of the original, and since they named it the same as the original, I think it deserves to be fully compared to it. (of course, the original strayed WAY off the original short story; "Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates)

I found the biggest robot in the movie was not Gort (G.O.R.T.? ), but Keanu Reeves. Klaatu was a very likeable, warm character in the original, but in this, everything was monotone and dry. Possibly a good thing, as I don't know if he can really act. You just can't replace Michael Rennie with Keanu Reeves. Heh. The nanobot thing didn't bug me much, as it's a logical--though predictable--modern twist. The CGI in the movie varied wildly! Sometimes it looked very good, sometimes incredibly phony. I was a little surprised at that.

Anyway, um...I'm not in a hurry to see it again, nor will I buy it. If it comes on TV in a couple of years, I'll probably check it out. In the meantime, I'll just keep watching the original, as I have semi-regularly for well over 20 years now. Like I said to my friend afterwards, there's a reason why a movie from 1951 was remade for 2008; it's a true classic with a timeless (albeit a bit twisted) message. This one will never be remade."

Actually, having re-read that, I still may not buy it, but I do want to see any deleted scenes there may be on the DVD.

Yeah I saw the remake. Actually on the day it came out. I would give it a seven just for trying.

I'm also a big fan of the original so I believed it wouldn't be as good. I liked "Farewell to the Master", though was a little depressing.

Yeah I just don't understand him now a days. He's a really good actor, but since the Matrix, they know he's good at being monotone so they put him in that mode for everything. He can act I've seen him in a lot of good movies but I just hate him monotone. Though I think he is really hot.
Michael Rennie will always be Klaatu. There is no other.
I liked the CGI effects but how many people did those nanobot thingies kill.
Was sad that he died. God the whale blubber part was freaky.
Gosh and you listen to the music and its all like OMG! Didn't understand the asian guy in the MCDonalds though. You have any idea what the hell that bit was for, though I know Keanu's character was cloned from the dude in the beginning.

I would see it agian. I liked it. Though in my opinion it could have been longer, and the ending could have been better.
Of course I'd continue watching the original its a classic.
