In Ukrainian mythology mermaids can also me young men, they live near the water they are bound to (usually place of death) and can't leave too far. They might be good creatures and bring fertility to your land or cause deadly floods.
Be careful and don't ever try to manipulate them.

I love the flow of this piece, everything seems to fit exactly where they are, the textures helps a lot in this case. Also, the white hair and pale skin of the Merman contrast well with the background too, good work buddy!
