This is a great photograph, and an even greater sentiment expressed in your Artist's Comment.
It has always disturbed me greatly the utter destruction of countless cultures and traditions due to Christian missionaries' efforts to "civilize" and "save" the people. That has been one of my main bones of contention with organized Christianity*. They would much rather see these people dressed modestly in khakis and button-ups and carrying around Bibles. To hell with their millennia-old customs and languages; to hell with their forms of belief and worship. It is comforting to know they have not been entirely successful.
* - I'm sure other religions do similarly dastardly things, but missionary Christiananity is the one I'm most familiar with.

I agree with you.
they did it out of beliefe and the western civilization is doing it out of ethnocentric point of view.
It is good that some cultures escaped that fate.

Lovely photo. Really nice perspective, and it's nice to see a photo of something alot of us may never get the chance to experience.
What is the red thing that the child is holding? And the purple thing on the top right?

It is uncommon to see such an image on DA. Very professional, and nice in the way of focus and clarity. Curious, I wonder how a B&W would look

In B&W, in my opinion, the image looses the impact of the massai colors... I've tried it.

i love the masai, their culture is incredible. my uncle spent a few years in the eighties teaching at village schools throughout africa. he always said the masai and the !kung san were the most fascinating and colorful peoples he had ever met. and he's been a lot further around the world than i ever will.
