i think it's funny that a festival to celebrate esther and what she did for the jews kinda turned into jewish halloween.

I agree...
but then again, that's why we love it

Silly Jews.... hahaha..

I'm at a Christian school right now, and last semester we learned all about the Old Testament (to us, that is) and it was so interesting. I have a great respect for the Jewish culture now, understanding it's roots. Plus shouting in terror and delight whenever you hear the name of the bad guy during a holiday is universally fun.

it's nice to hear that you learn of our heritage.

If we Christians, as followers of Jesus (who was a Jew), don't understand his culture and society, and his life and the Scriptures he knew and taught, and the people to whom he taught them... we would have absolutely nothing to base our faith on. I firmly believe that if we don't fully understand the past of Israel, then we have no real understanding of what Jesus and his early follower's goals were for the world at large.

Cool talking with you; I love being able to interact with a person of a faith very similar to my own, yet from a totally different perspective.

I understand.
well, that's the beauty of the internet... you can talk to people from all over the world. I have some friends in DA who are from arab countries that "officially" don't like Israel, and here I've became good friends with some of them

officially meaning they were instilled with hatred that is unfounded in truth.

Beautiful expression, and great shot. The only thing that I find a little distracting is the overexposed white collar, but exposingfor it would've meant underexposing the rest of the frame. That said, a little dodging in photoshop should take care of it.

Anyway, good job.

Fun image--the DOF is excellent--really serves to make the subject pop out of what may have been a busy background! Excellent composition and timing.

RoieG In reply to geostant [2006-03-19 19:28:07 +0000 UTC]

the thing is, my friend, that the D70s can't do high sync.
and the shutter speed is well above 1/500 it could sync in.
thanks

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

geostant In reply to RoieG [2006-03-20 06:53:19 +0000 UTC]

I thought that it's like in Canon
you sync is faster then the limit but lost some amount of light

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RoieG In reply to geostant [2006-03-23 20:01:01 +0000 UTC]

they disables it in the D70...
it is called high sync or fast sync.
in this mode the flash strobes many small pulses instead of just one, that's the reason for the weaker flash.

but what's hamantashen?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mediocrevegtable In reply to RoieG [2006-03-19 04:23:56 +0000 UTC]

Hamantashen are cookies traditionally made on Purim. You take a circle (flat) of dough, and put some jam or other spread in the middle and fold the sides into a triangle. They're called Hamantashen after Haman, the 'bad guy' in the story of Purim. And the cookies are delicious.

RoieG In reply to mediocrevegtable [2006-03-19 19:24:39 +0000 UTC]

ohhh... now I understand what you mean...
Haman is indeed the bad guy, but we call it "Haman's ears" or in Hebrew - "Ozney Haman"
