I was at the hospital, listening to Anna roll around in unbearable pain. I shivered, and I covered my ears. I hated listening to Anna being in pain, and I covered my face with my hands.
"Logan-" Anna wheezed. I looked through the glass and saw Anna signaling me with her hand to come closer to her. I looked around to ensure the Doctor wasn't looking, and I sneaked to be by her side again. "Yes, Anna?" I whispered. I looked into her eyes; they twitched as she rubbed her chest. "I feel like my body is ripping apart, I-I-" Anna collapsed in her bed, and I heard the monitor flatline. "Anna," I said. "Wake up!" I kept shaking her, but she wouldn't wake up from everything we all dread hearing.
Death.
Anna was dying from cancer, and I felt so worthless at this point, but I wasn't going to let Anna die. Not again. Not if I could help it. I ran into the hallway and screamed, "DOCTOR! NURSE! I NEED HELP OVER HERE!" I was bawling in tears, and the medical staff hurried back to her room and performed CPR on her. "NO!" I screamed, and I smashed my fist against the wall. "SAVE HER! SAVE HER!" I pushed my way into Anna's room, where the doctors continued performing CPR. "Alright, 120 joules!" the Doctor ordered. The nurse rubbed the two electric pads together and pressed the pads onto Anna's chest. It wasn't working, and the Doctor ordered her to do it again. "Try it again!"
The nurse pressed the two pads together and repeated the same course of action but to no effect. I noticed Adine standing in the hallway with a frightened look. I walked over to Adine and I hugged her tightly. She is my emotional support companion throughout Anna's cancer treatment that's happening right now. Remy was still out with Amely and Vara, Adine's children, and they were at Adine's apartment. Anna's heartbeat monitor was still looking like a flatline with its loud beep that seemed to echo through my ears for eternity. "Alright, time of-" I cut off the Doctor by charging into the room, "PLEASE! SAVE ANNA! I'LL DO ANYTHING, BUT PLEASE SAVE HER!" I cried on the floor, wrapping my arms around his leg. "PLEASE! DO IT ONE MORE TIME! SAVE HER, PLEASE!" The Doctor sighed and ordered the nurse to charge the pads to 140 joules. "Clear!" the nurse said. She pressed the pads against Anna's chest. Nothing. "PLEASE, JUST DO IT ONE MORE TIME!" I yelled, and I was still sobbing uncontrollably.
Adine was watching me with a sad look on her face. She knew I liked Anna, and she watched in despair as the nurse rubbed the pads again. "Clear!" the nurse shouted. This time, there was a beep heard coming from the heart monitor. "Alright, we have a pulse," the Doctor said. "Please, Doctor, I know you have the antidote to cure Anna's cancer. Please, cure her. I'll do anything," I hugged the Doctor's leg again, and nonstop tears dripped onto the floor. "I-I can't," the Doctor said. He was about to leave again. "What did you say?" I said with watery tears dripping down my chin. I stared at the Doctor in disbelief. "Anna will die unless you give her this chance. Please, sir, please give her the antidote," I looked up at the Doctor, and he tried to dismiss me again. "Someone else needs this antidote, and what if it doesn't work? We have one vial. One human cure might not heal a dragon like Anna. It could cause damaging side effects, and it can still kill her if it's the wrong thing,"
"At least give her the antidote, so she has a chance to live!" I cried. "Anna doesn't deserve this. . .this pain. She doesn't deserve her cancer. Please, I'll do anything. I'll pay for everything, but please bring her back!" The Doctor stared hard at me, and then he took his glasses off to rub his eyes with his hands. "Okay, I'll see what I can do, but if she dies, it will be on you because you suggested we give her that antidote," I was pissed to listen to what the Doctor said now. "Don't patronize me! She would have died if you had not wanted to take up my suggestion, and it would be your fault then," The Doctor pretended like he didn't hear me, and he directed me to leave with Adine to the lobby, where we would wait all night so we could listen to the results of Anna's condition. . .
"It's going to be okay, Logan," Adine said. She rubbed my head with her hand and patted my back with her left wing. I sniffled, and I rubbed my nose with my hand. "I don't want Anna to die, and she doesn't deserve this, even when she treated me so harshly after all of those weeks,"
Adine's golden face lightened toward me, and she smiled slightly at me, telling me that Anna would be okay and that she would get through this. I asked Adine if Remy was coming by, but she said he wasn't and Remy was staying at her place for the evening. Adine spoke to Remy earlier about her trip coming here, and she did not wish for Vara and Amely to see Anna in her current state. "It's just that I have so much to tell her about. . . Reza, Izumi, the portal, and everything that happened," I started panicking, and I thought of this world without Anna in it, and I thought about killing myself if Anna died. "She saved my life," I thought, "And I saved hers. We have so many things to speak about,"
Adine asked me if I could lie down on her lap and sleep there until Anna's Doctor performed her surgery until she was well again. When I laid on Adine's lap, I fell into a sleep where I had a nightmare that Anna didn't make it to the operating table. I met her in her room, and she told me she couldn't breathe, and Anna died minutes later. My worst fear was that I couldn't do anything about it. I have seen too much death as it is ever since I came here to this world. I couldn't bear to see any more death.
I felt someone trying to shake me up, and I was muttering incoherently until I woke up from my dream, and it was daytime. I looked up to see Adine trying to wake me up. Where did she come from again? My first thought was to see if Anna was okay. "I'm not entirely sure yet," Adine said calmly. She looked at me with kind eyes. "I think the Doctor will come out any minute. Oh, look, here he comes now,"
I stood up, dusted off my jeans, and straightened my shoelaces on my Chuck Taylor sneakers before the Doctor delivered the news. I braced for hell to come at me and shut my eyes while holding my breath. "How is she?" I asked. The Doctor took his glasses off and said, "She's going to be okay. We performed the surgery on Anna and implemented the cure for her disease. We were astonished to learn how quickly her tumors went away, and the cure managed to bring down her Stage four cancer to sustainable levels," I was delighted to hear this news. It was the best thing I've ever heard.
"But, will Anna be okay? Will she fully recover?" Adine had an excited, happy look on her face too. It seemed like she was more impatient to hear the news than I did, "She will fully recover, but Anna will have to stay in the hospital for a few more weeks so we can ensure ourselves that she will be on the quickest path to recovery," The Doctor smiled, and he walked away. "But, could I see her right now?" I called out to him. The Doctor said nothing; instead, he gave me the thumbs up. You better believe I ran faster than Usain Bolt when I ran to Anna's room to check up on her. I slowly walked toward Anna, who looked weak on the bed, but she would indeed survive. She needed weeks to recover from her surgery. I was surprised at how quickly I could see Anna as I thought I wouldn't see her for a month.
"Logan," Anna said. "Come over here," Anna had a weak sounding voice, but she could speak clearly. She signaled me over to come to be by her side. "Anna, you're going to recover," I told her quickly, and I encouraged Anna by telling her that everything was going to be okay. "We did it, Anna, we did it, we saved your planet, and I saved you," Anna showed off a weak smile, and she tried to swallow. "Can I get you some water?" I asked. Anna nodded her head slowly, so I went and came back with some water. "Here you go, Anna. Drink up," I said. My hand passes by Anna's horn and her flaps, where I would support her head so she could drink comfortably. Anna drank whatever was in the cup of water I gave her, and she told me thank you.
"I don't want anybody seeing me like this," Anna said. I got up, and to Anna, it looked like I was about to leave, "Did I say that you could leave?" Anna said. "There's the dragon that I know," I said. I hoped that wasn't a bad thing to say. Anna scoffed, but she rested her hands on her scaly chest and blinked firmly several times before going to sleep. I watched over her, and my daily ritual of watching over Anna would stretch to 3 weeks before it was safe for Anna to leave the hospital.
Anna's Last Day. . .Three Weeks Later. . .
I walked into Anna's room and saw that she looked much better than the first night she stayed here after her surgery. "Hey, Logan," she said. I waved at Anna, and she approached me. "The doctor already drew up my discharge papers, and it's time for me to get out of here,"
I look at Anna with a bright look in my eyes. "Anna, I'm so happy for you," I said. "I'm so happy you're doing well and you aren't in pain anymore,"
Anna looked up at me, but she said nothing. She turned her back and walked over to the window that overlooked the city. "That's true, Logan. I'm not in pain, but I remember everything that happened with Reza killing Izumi and the portal being destroyed for good," Anna turned to look at me, and she kept her eyes locked onto me. "Logan," she said. "I'm. . .so sorry for all of those times where I treated you so harshly. That experiment I forced upon you, and that other time where I nearly got you shot by Reza," I wanted to hug Anna, but I held myself back. Anna needed to vent these things out and whatever emotions were inside her.
"That portal, you saved humanity and managed to save everyone when you figured out a plan to divert the comet, but you won't ever return home. You live with dragons now. Don't you feel any different? You won't see another human again?" I had mixed feelings about knowing that I wouldn't see another human again. I was going to live my life here with dragons now. I remember Reza shooting Izumi, but luckily Izumi shared her secrets from her laptop before Reza killed her. Reza nearly killed me, too, twice almost, had it not been for Anna warning me of his plans, but she blames herself that I can't go home again. "Anna, it's not your fault. You can't blame yourself because I can't go home again. Reza was the one who destroyed the portal. He tried blowing everyone up,"
Anna sniffled, and she asked if I could come closer to her. "I-I-Logan, I'm so sorry," she hugged me tightly, and she whispered into my ear, "I don't want to let you go, Logan," Adine was in the hallway watching us, and she nodded at me, and understood that Anna and I needed alone time.
"What matters Anna, is that humanity will live on, and so will the dragons. Everyone wins," I explained. Anna shook her head. "Except you, it would have been better if we had the portal working so you could come here whenever you wanted, but now you're trapped here because of me,"
Anna leaned forward, and she pressed her muzzle against my chest. Her hot breath made a warm spot across my heart. "Anna, the way I see it, and as weird as it sounds, Reza gave me the gift of the option to stay here forever," Anna looked up at me, and her muzzle was touching my chin. "Logan, do you. . .mean that?" she said. She wiped her eyes with her chin, and she cleared her throat. "Of course, Anna. I think I will be happy here,"
Anna's lips began to quiver, and it looked as if she was going to cry some more, but she didn't. Instead, she recounted what it was like when we had our first night together.
"Well, at least I can test on one human regarding autonomy," Anna said. I laughed, "I knew you'd say that," I replied. "But, Anna, if you need my help, I'd offer it to you anytime," Anna's mood quickly changed from sad to happy. She flashed a toothy grin at me and rubbed my cheek with her hand. "I want to let you know, Logan, I'm not that type of person anymore. I won't be mean to the others I've been mean to, you know? Someone in there right mind would have left me a long time ago, but you stayed with me and cared for me when nobody else would. You didn't use me for self gain unlike what Damion had done to me,"
"I could never be like Damion," I said.
Anna rolled her eyes.
"Anna, we humans have a saying when we get too hyped up about something, you have to let that shit go," I told her. Anna looked at me curiously. "You humans are always so full of surprises," Anna said.
"But. . .anyway, I know I don't deserve your help, but thank you, Logan," Anna added.
"Anna, it's no trouble at all," I said. "I want to help you. I want to help you, Anna," Anna broke away from me and walked toward the door. "You saved me, Logan, more than once, and I owe it to you. I'd do anything for you, Logan. What would you like me to do for you?" I walked over to Anna and explained to her that she could choose what she wanted to do this evening. "You sacrificed your way home to save my civilization, don't be like that. I insist you ask me something, anything," Anna looked at me, and I kept looking around, thinking of something. I wasn't exactly great with the women back home, and now my only options are. . .female dragons.
"You are too slow, but I will give you a bonus with what you wish to do this evening," Anna lowered her eyelids and kissed me loudly on the cheek. "W-whoa, that felt great, Anna," I said. I could feel her saliva on my cheek. "Mhm, yeah, Logan, and don't expect that to be the last one either," Anna explained that she wanted me to walk her to where the grasslands were by the beach. "If you don't come up with anything, I might as well speak for your mind," Anna tugged on my arm with her tail and walked out of the hospital. "I never thought I would see any of this again," Anna said. She began to cry again, but her tears were joyful instead of sad. "Alright, would you like to get some ice cream?" I asked her. Anna smiled, and she nodded her head. We went over to the ice cream shop in town. "Well, if it isn't Anna," Katsuharu said. He greeted Anna and me with a warm welcome. Katsuharu is an elderly dragon who has run an ice cream shop and has been running it for many years. Most dragons come to him when they want to try his mother's secret ice cream recipe. "Logan, the newspapers have been buzzing your name ever since you stopped Reza," Katsuharu said. I placed my hand behind my head, and Anna looked at me.
"It's not just me, Katsuharu. Anna helped, too. She saved my life. If it weren't for her, we all wouldn't be here right now," Katsuharu placed his hand under his scaly chin, and he thought for a moment. "Well then," he began. "I'll have to chat with Lorem about that, but while you are here, have some ice cream. It's on me," Katsuharu handed me and Anna ice cream. "Thank you," we said in unison. Katsuharu smiled at us, and he tended to his kitchen. Anna and I sat down by the booth that had the most sunshine. "I hate to be depressing, Logan," Anna said. "But, did everyone survive Reza's whole ordeal?" Anna was in the hospital and didn't know who survived the problems Reza had created. Anna witnessed when Reza shot Izumi right before she went into the hospital. "Not everyone," I said sadly. "Bryce didn't make it, and neither did Sebastian. Reza killed them as they were trying to stop him. Maverick did make it out okay, and he's the new police chief," Anna looked at her ice cream and closed her eyes as she licked the strawberry type flavor.
"I don't want to talk about those events anymore," Anna muttered. "As you said, I need to let that shit go," Anna felt bad that not everyone made it out because of Reza, but mostly everyone was still okay and doing well.
"Where's Remy and Adine?" asked Anna. She continued to lick her ice cream and asked me if Vara and Amely were alright. "Adine and her family are doing great. Amelie has a new home now," Anna smiled at me, "And it's all thanks to you, that advice you gave me, and when it came to acting on it helped my relationship with Adine. You looked out for me, and you didn't need to," Anna finished her ice cream, and she snatched mine out of my hands, and she ate it in one bite. "Hey!" I said. Anna laughed. "As you said, Logan, you need to let that shit go," she told me. I couldn't help but laugh, and then Anna led me out of the ice cream parlor and toward Adine's apartment, where she was going to speak with her about some things.
Anna walked up the stairs beside me, asking me if Adine still hated her. "No, Anna, she doesn't hate you anymore. Adine told me this the day before your surgery," Anna knocked on the door of Adine's apartment, and Vara opened it. "Mom! she called. Vara had such a cute little voice. Adine came to the door, and she smiled at us, "Come in, guys. Hey, Anna, how are you holding up?" Anna walked inside, and I followed. I saw Remy playing with Amely. "Hey, Remy," I said. Remy smiled at me. He wanted to thank me for giving him this wonderful opportunity with Adine. "I can never thank you enough. You're always welcome here, Logan," he said.
Adine looked up and down at me. "Vara, this is the human that saved the world," she said. Vara looked at me and hugged me with her wings around my waist. "She'll grow up, and she will be able to hug your chest instead of your legs," Adine said.
I smiled, and I sat down beside Remy and Amely. Anna sat down beside me, and Adine sat in front of us. Adine's golden body shimmered throughout the dim room. "It'll take some time before we get most of the power back up and running again, but we will have to make due," Adine said. Adine stared at me, and I knew she secretly really liked me too. Adine knows how I gave up my right to go home so I could save all of the dragons to divert the comet. "Adine. . ." Anna began. "Do you forgive me for everything I have done against you? All the things I have done to hurt you and Remy?" Remy and Adine looked at each other, "Of course, we forgive you," Adine and Remy said in unison. Vara and Amely studied me with curiosity. "I told Remy the truth of what happened with you, Logan, and Reza," Adine said. Remy nodded and explained how surprised he was when he discovered I had saved everyone. "I thought you and Reza were using us dragons for personal gain, but I was wrong. You genuinely cared about us, and we can't thank you enough, Logan," Remy said, smiling.
"Adine did well helping out at the orphanage, and we were able to take Amely home with us," Remy added. I looked at Adine, and I remembered to ask her, "Oh, yeah, Adine, how is everything looking at the orphanage?" I asked. Adine smiled at me, and she explained to me how she was working overtime so she could ensure the orphan dragons would make it into good homes. "Adine, if you ever want my help, I will help you at the orphanage, alright? I want to help you," Anna looked at me and thought, "Wow, Logan, you want to help every dragon, don't you?" she smiled. "What a sweet human. I got lucky with having the last one," Adine looked like she wanted to find some other topic. "Oh yeah, back at the cafe all those months ago, Logan, I never asked you how old you were," Adine said. I chuckled, and I was embarrassed to reveal my age. "Back at home, I volunteered to be here, so Reza and I could finish our mission, and I was currently in college for a degree in biology, and it was a trip I couldn't miss out on. I had to see what life was like in a different world. But, to answer you're question Adine, I'm nineteen,"
Adine covered her mouth with her hands. "You are nineteen, and you saved us?" she said. I shrugged, "Yep, I did something I never thought I could, and I ended up being that unlikely hero in the end," Adine giggled, but Anna was surprised. "Your nineteen?" Anna asked. I looked at Anna, "Yes, I am nineteen, and I believe I haven't gotten your age yet," I said.
Anna smirked. "Forget it. I'm not telling," she answered. Anna looked away, but she did sneak a look at me a moment later. Remy tried to hide the fact that he found that a bit funny. Anna and I sat up, and Amely looked at Anna. Amely felt like she had a connection to Anna. "Amely, do you see Anna?" she said. Adine carefully explained to Amely that Anna was her other mom, but only because Amely was created when Anna spliced her DNA to create Amely. "That's your other momma," Adine said to Amely. Amely turned her back on Anna, she knew what Adine was speaking of, but she said that Adine was going to be her mother. Anna smiled at Adine, and Adine giggled and looked at Remy when she held onto her child.
Anna hinted that it was time to leave, but Amely said, "Kiss!" Vara laughed at her half sister, and Remy looked at Adine. "Anna kiss him!" she said. "Kiss him, kiss him, kiss him!" Amely kept saying it over and over again. I was beat red and I saw that Anna was red too, but she looked right at me as I looked away. I've never been kissed before on the mouth, and I haven't told anyone. But I didn't want to say anything about it just yet, and I saw Anna coming after me. She grabs my head with her hands and kisses me with her scaly, plush lips. I nearly fell backward in surprise.
It felt. . .interesting to kiss a dragoness. Anna pulled away, and Amely laughed. Gee, thanks, Amely. "Alright, well, I'll see you soon," said Adine. "Tomorrow, at the cafe for breakfast?" Anna told Adine that would be lovely, and she led me out of Adine's apartment. "Bye, see you guys later," I said. Amely tried preventing me from leaving, but I told her I had to go but would see her soon.
Anna didn't say a word to me about anything until we reached the other side of the street facing Adine's apartment. "Did you enjoy that?" she asked. But I detected a hint of seductiveness in her voice. "Um. . .to be honest Anna, that was the first time I've ever been. . .kissed before. . .I mean on the mouth," I felt awkward sharing that with Anna. She saw this as a perfect time to tease me again. "Aww. . .I saw you were beat red. You liked it. Admit it, Logan," Anna pushed me gently, and I pushed her back gently. Anna asked me another question, "If I died," she began. "Would you have cloned me as I did with Amely?" I sighed. "But, Anna, you didn't die, and I would prefer it if I had the original Anna," Anna studied me, and she tilted her head to one side. "You do care about me. How about that," she said. I looked at Anna funny. "I do care about you, Anna. You should know that by now,"
Anna had a smirk on her face that I didn't see, and she told me to hurry up so we could go to those grasslands.
Roughly half an hour later, we found ourselves in the tall grass by the ocean. Anna didn't utter a single word, and out of the corner of my eye, I watched Anna look at her surroundings. It looked like she genuinely thought she wouldn't see this place again, and I saw the relieved look on her face. Eventually, we both settled under some softer grass underneath a shaded tree. Anna leaned her side against mine with most of her weight but remained unusually quiet. "Are you okay?" I asked. Anna didn't answer for a few minutes. "I thought I would never see any of this again," she replied. "Now I have a whole life ahead of me, the life I take on the way I see fit, free of disease or police persecution," Anna paused for a moment, "And it's all thanks to you, Logan," she said.
"It wasn't just me; Adine got the idea of where to find the cure, and Emera did all the bureaucratic heavy lifting," I said.
"I can't believe that Emera was helpful for once," Anna said.
"She's a lot different from what you see at first glance,"
Anna shook her head. "I didn't get that impression. All she cares about is popularity and ratings like it's some stupid numbers game,"
"Anna, her main goal was always to help the people," I said. "She is very friendly if you get to know her better,"
Anna looked around for a bit, "I suppose," she said.
"So, how did Adine find the cure?" Anna asked. I scratched the back of my head, "Well, Adine thought of the cure being inside the PDA archives, something both you and I missed,"
"Well, she's smarter than I expected," Anna said. "I thought it was somewhere else, but I guess that's all over now,"
Anna dug her foot in the dirt and said, "I'm not used to people helping me just for the heck of it,"
"Adine and Emera both helped you, Anna, and they didn't ask for anything back from you," I told her confidently, and I explained to her that there are people who genuinely care for her. There was no reason to ruminate about the times when people could care less about Anna. "You're asking me to unhate everyone at once," Anna said. "You can't honestly hate everyone, can you, Anna?" I said.
"I don't hate you, Logan," Anna said.
"But maybe it's time to expand that circle of trust?" I suggested.
Anna studied me, and she replied, "Maybe it is, if only a little,"
"So, what do you want from me since you saved me twice?" Anna added. She wanted to give me something since I saved her life more than once, but I am sticking to my point. "I told you, Anna, I don't want anything from you. I wanted to help you, and I didn't expect anything in return,"
"Oh please, if you carry on your kindness like this, Logan, my blood might as well become sugar at this point," Anna said.
"And. . .what would you expect me to ask for?" I said. It was a trick question; maybe, I didn't know what I was saying. As I said, most of my words with the female dragons here, I guessed saying. I was not good with anyone who was the opposite gender until I came here. "Wait, do you expect me to lay out all the possibilities for you?" Anna said. She had an annoyed look on her face.
Oops...
"No, of course not," I answered quickly.
"Well, that's good, or I would have called this whole deal here off," Anna said.
I held my breath. I hoped I didn't say anything wrong to offend Anna and didn't want to wreck our friendship.
I couldn't believe what my mind told me next, but I went with it, and I tensed up when I said, "So. . .how about another date, Anna?" I asked.
"Wait, so you went through hell so that you could save my life just for a date?" Anna said sounding annoyed.
"You could have demanded anything, but all you want is to hang out?"
Anna pressed her hand against her scaly face. "You humans sure are interesting," she said.
"Did you honestly think I would want to exploit you like that? And then I would have to sit with it for the rest of my life?" I said.
"Alright, deal, I suppose sick leave from my work might have its benefits," Anna said.
"You still haven't told me how you pushed the cure production in one evening," Anna said.
Oh yeah, the cure. I almost forgot. It's no wonder Adine's bench felt empty when I slept on the night when Anna was undergoing surgery. Adine did Anna a favor and asked for Emera's help to push this cure production along the night before, which saved Anna's life. She worked on implementing the cure when she went through surgery. Wow, that was perfect timing.
I explained to Anna what happened with the cure production and how Emera sped things along with Adine helping move the cure production to full force. I told Anna she needed to give a double thank you to Adine for that; it turned out she saved Anna's life too, and I just realized that now come to think of this.
"Hey, since the cure worked, Anna, they can accelerate the process with the official cure and implement it. It'll save many lives," I said.
"Cunning," Anna said. "But the world will never know who to thank for the cure," Anna's voice trailed off. Her dream was to let the world know she had achieved something big, but it seems she won't get that chance.
"But, since you went through and helped Adine get that information without proper clearance, we're both criminals now. However, I've been pardoned, but you haven't been caught yet,"
I was confused, but then I realized I did sneak and get the information at a specific location I was not allowed to be in, but I did it for Anna, and I'd be more than willing to do it for her again. "Wait, but I thought the council didn't pardon you?" I said.
Anna smirked. "Maverick came by before you at the hospital today, and he gave me the paper for my pardon from the council," she said.
"But, they can't do anything since you have diplomatic immunity, can't they?" she added.
I nervously pulled on the neck part of my shirt. "Eh-heh, I don't have it anymore. I lost my ambassador status and everything with it save the apartment," I said.
"Alright, who did you piss off this time? Did your guys get upset about you siding with us instead of them and getting in the way of that murderous prick, Reza?"
Anna came to another realization that reason alone was why I couldn't bring Anna back to my world to cure her when the portal was still open. Still, even if Anna recovered in my world, I might not have had enough time to get back through, and every dragon would have been dead except for Anna since I wouldn't have been back to stop the comet in time.
"I didn't annoy anyone, your council had a huge investigation into Reza's case, and it was too late when they concluded Reza's plan. By then, Bryce and Sebastian were dead, and Reza shot Izumi before accidentally blowing himself up along with the portal with that bomb Bryce had made,"
"Anna, I have to tell you something," I said.
Anna looked at me, and she sat up against the tree. "Yes, Logan?" she said.
I explained all of the timelines Izumi told me about before Reza killed her. I told Anna about how I went through hell in each timeline so I could eventually find the one with a happy ending for everyone. Anna died in every ending except this one, and everyone lived happily ever after.
Anna thought it made perfect sense, and throughout those timelines, I knew I had to suffer and go through hell since my feelings for Anna grew too strong. Even if I wanted to go back in time, even once, I couldn't. The time machine blew up along with Reza, but I was incredibly fortunate that everything managed to work out after everything happened.
"I. . .died in every timeline, and you went back to try and save me again and again?" said Anna.
Anna stood up in complete shock. Who knows how many months, or even years, I went back in time with that time machine to have this happy ending with Anna. "Izumi had a major part to play with the timeline," I said. "Izumi went back in time. She was the administrator, and so I did as well. We figured out we could fix each mess we created and make it better each time,"
Upon hearing this, Anna hugged me tightly. "You went out of your way for me all this time? You have to be kidding. Nobody would have done that for me. . .unless. . ." Anna trailed off, and she realized I had feelings for her. Stronger feelings, maybe intimate ones for her, that were much more than she had expected from me. Anna didn't tell me that she had come to this realization.
"Even if they convict me right now, Anna, I'm glad to have you still around. That's all that matters," I said.
Anna smiled, but she said, "Said no dragon ever,"
"Oh, and now you're being down on yourself again, Anna," I said.
"You'll have to excuse me for speaking the truth," Anna said. "If I had a best friend, I don't think they would have done the same for me,"
I looked at Anna flatly, and she laid against me again under the tree.
"You know it doesn't always have to be this way," I said.
"Give me a break, I'm always going to dislike people, and they are always going to dislike me until the end of time," Anna answered. She flips on her side to look at me instead of the ocean. "Except you, of course," she added quickly.
"Well, I'm sure even you will get fed up and leave," Anna murmured.
My heart did that thing again, you know? The part where I say something that shows I care about Anna?
"Or, Anna, maybe you and I will become something together one day,"
"What if we already had become something?" she said.
I place my arms around her shoulder, and I pull Anna a little closer to me. My heart was beating violently. I've never acted like this to someone I care about before. "I'd like that to be the case," I said.
"Of course, you would," she replied.
"Wouldn't you?" I responded.
"It's a big commitment, and I can't let anything hold me back. The work I do is far too important to let personal affairs get in the way,"
"I see," I began. "We could still be friends, Anna,"
"Well," Anna said. "It wasn't my work that saved me. It was you, Logan. You saved me,"
"So, having someone who really cares has a lot of unexpected benefits. It might be worth all of the extra trouble," Anna concluded.
"It is, trust me," I said.
"When I get back to work, Logan, I'll see if I can fit you on the schedule if you want," Anna stated. She stretches her back for a moment, and she stares into me. No, she was staring into my soul. How do dragons know to be so relatable regarding human bondage?
"That would be nice, Anna. I'd love that," I said. "So, since your almost fully recovered, I assume you're going to continue new important research?"
"Naturally, my talents have been unnoticed for too long already, Logan,"
"Just. . .don't be so crazy and zealous about it, Anna," I said.
"But that's the fun part," Anna said. "I've discovered exciting things throughout my line of work, and some of those things are fun to learn about when it comes to studying them afterward,"
"Anna, don't you remember when I spoke to you about taking it easy on yourself and don't work so much?" I said.
Anna nodded slowly, "Yeah, yeah, Logan, I learned my lesson about that already," she said. "In Damion's case, literally. I won't miss that selfish piece of shit,"
"I wish nobody had to die,'' I said with a hint of sadness. I knew that Bryce and Sebastian were good dragons. Still, they died as heroes, and the police department and everyone else will remember their actions were honorable and will be unforgotten. "But, I'm glad at least it wasn't you, Anna,"
"I'm glad too," Anna said. "It does make me uncomfortable knowing I dodged death these past few months,"
"First, Reza raided my lab. Then we had to fight that prick in the facility before he took the fight outside, then the comet nearly caused an extinction-level event, and finally, cancer nearly finished me off,"
"Yet, here I am with you, Logan, still given a chance, one I'm sure I deserve,"
"I guess the universe likes you," I said.
Anna smirked again, "Or maybe it was someone who kept going back in time for god knows how long just so they could save me,"
"Except. . .for the fight against Reza in the facility where he nearly shot you if I haven't reacted in time. . ." Anna said. She hated knowing Reza could have killed me if she were too slow to respond. "I totally saved your sorry ass,"
"You did. If you hadn't done so, we both wouldn't have been here today," I answered.
Anna chuckled, "I could say the same thing to you, you big kind wuss,"
"But I'm happy with what I got, Anna," I said.
"You didn't get anything out of helping me but endless trouble and possible conviction if they find out about your diplomacy," Anna replied.
"Sometimes it just feels good to do the right thing for the person you care about, and the reward you get is the happiness, and well-being is of its own reward," I answered.
"I felt that way when I tackled you out of the way before Reza shot you. I couldn't let you get hurt or killed," Anna had a worried look written across her face. She couldn't stop blaming herself, but she tried to stop thinking about what if Reza did shoot me, and she ended up living because of the cure to her cancer since I helped Adine with the cure with plenty of time to save Anna. She didn't want to imagine life without me instead.
"I was ready to shield you with my body without a second thought," Anna added. "Is this how caring feels like?"
I nodded. "Yes, Anna, you're right," I smiled.
"Well, I was wondering something since that ordeal is finally over. I want you to be certain and completely honest with me," Anna said.
My heart was beating violently again. What was Anna about to say?
"Promise that you'll stay with me, right?" Anna said.
"Promise, no matter what," I replied.
"Thank you, Logan," she said, winking at me.
"I got used to having you after all," Anna stated. She sounded happy when she said that, and I was relieved that Anna looked like she wasn't worried about anything anymore.
"I got used to you too, Anna," I said, smiling.
We were too preoccupied with our conversation, and it seemed like Anna, and I lost track of time. The sun had almost entirely set, and the lamp posts flickered on for the night again. It was getting late.
A chilly gust of the evening wind made me shiver. My clothes were never meant for anything but warm summer days. Thick, heavy dark clouds approached across the darkening horizon, and it looked like it was about to rain.
"It looks like a storm is coming," I said.
"It's no problem for my scales," Anna answered.
"It is a problem for me and my clothes, though. It can also be very chilly and windy, and you are still recovering. You don't want to catch a cold, do you?"
"That's not how I envisioned spending time with you, Anna," I added.
"So, where do you live?" I ask.
Anna smacked her head with her hand. "I haven't been to my apartment in weeks, and I haven't cleaned my apartment yet," she said. "The cleaning service isn't available so late,"
Anna said nothing for a few moments. "Mind if we go to your apartment?" she said.
I smiled, "Sure," I answered.
***
Anna and I traveled back to my apartment, and we barely made it through the front entrance just as the last few raindrops started pouring on us.
I opened my apartment, and I let Anna inside. It had plenty of space, and the bigger it was, the more important you must be. I don't care about being an ambassador anymore and the powers it came with it. All I care about is Anna. I felt my stomach growl, reminding me to search through the fridge.
"Hmm, I think you should have this," I said, giving the food to Anna. It was bacon, but I never saw a single pig during my time here so far. You know what? I'm not even going to ask. I plated Anna her food, and I went hungry. "What's up? Do you have any food left in your refrigerator?" she asked. I shook my head. "No, Anna, you have it all, but I want you to."
Anna shushed me and grabbed a plate and a glass of water for me. "Thank you," I said.
"You humans sure have a way with hospitality. You could have decided to grab a bigger plate," Anna said. "Besides, this is good stuff. Why don't you try it?"
Anna stuck a big piece of meat on my plate. Of course, it was a sizable portion for a dragon, but I don't think my stomach could handle it, so I only ate a few pieces of it while Anna ate everything off her plate. I didn't want my food to go to waste, so I put it back into a baggie and placed it inside the refrigerator. "Now, what would you like to do?" I asked.
Anna explained that she wanted to play truth or dare, but she wanted to do it in bed.
My heart skipped a beat. Bed? Anna wanted me to be beside her in bed. What the-I-
"Do you have any oil-you know what? Never mind, I'm sure you have some in here," Anna said. She scrounges around my bathroom, and five minutes later, she walks out with a large blanket and two pillows. "Here's this," Anna said. She set it on the bed, and she was beside the bed, ready to climb in without hesitation. Anna saw me, and I still had all of my clothes on. "Care to take off those clothes for me?" Anna asked. She sounded flirty then. Anna walked over to me and looked into my eyes. "Did you hear what I said?" Anna reinstated. I saw that she rubbed oil on her body, her chest, and her thighs, as well as her face.
My heart was pounding in my chest, and Anna listened to the sound of *pump* *pump*
Anna gasped slightly, "Aww, is the little human scared of me?" she taunted. Anna rolled her eyes, took my shirt off, and twirled it with her hand. "I'm not about to let some human off the hook for his hospitality of saving me twice as well as sticking up for me when no one else would,"
Anna stared at my chest and rolled her eyes again when I stood there dumbfounded at the fact that I'll have to take my pants off too. Anna wouldn't leave me with anything on, and I wasn't sure about my undergarments if she wanted those off too. "Why did I get picked by the shyest human?" Anna said. Anna went over, took my socks off, and left me with nothing but my jeans.
"Lay right here for me, please," she said. "Oh, and I almost forgot," Anna slipped her tail into my pants, and I blushed as I tried looking away. Did Anna seriously reach into my pants just now? Does she know what that means?
"Why do you look so flustered?" she said.
Anna took my pants off, and she suddenly knew the truth. She shut the door and closed the curtains before pushing me onto the bed. My heart beat violently. I'd never been intimate with anyone before and didn't know where to start. I had feelings for Anna, but I didn't think she felt the same about me.
Anna was lying on top of me. She placed her hips on either side of mine and pressed her hands against my chest. Anna wrapped her tail around my legs. "What an adorable human you are," she said flirtily. She shook her pointer finger back and forth, then said, "Now, let's see if you are brave enough to play truth or dare. "I go first, so dare,"
I didn't know what to do, and Anna couldn't stop smiling or staring at me. She looked so excited, and she liked being the one on top. "Um. . .I dare you to. . . nuzzle. . .me?" I wasn't sure what to say next, but Anna giggled when I gave her my answer. "Sure, Logan, anything for you," Anna leaned down and gently pressed her muzzle against my face. Her lips touched my cheeks, and she softly massaged me with her muzzle. Her eyes looked into mine, and she lowered them in a flirty way.
"You are so. . .sweet. . .Logan," Anna said. "Saving me twice, and. . ." Anna tiptoed her claw on my chest and was back to what she was doing before I asked her to nuzzle me.
"Now, you dare me, dare me to do something," I said. "And then, we can play truth afterward," My heart was ready to give out, and I was still underneath Anna.
"Now. . . little human, I want you to come here and kiss me," she dared.
"Anna," I whispered. "I never really-"
Anna pulled me up, and her gaze met mine. Her lips pressed gently against mine, and she hugged me to kiss me better. Anna wrapped her arms around my back and shoved her mouth against mine as passionately as she could. I listened to Anna moaning with pleasure and felt her tail take off my undergarments. My face beat red, and Anna looked up at my face. She had a flirty smirk on her face, and she kissed me as hard as she could. "What's this?" Anna said. She saw my crotch, and she looked at it. "Anna-" I said. Anna looked at me, and then she wrapped her tail around it before she started kissing me passionately again. I felt a deep sense of pleasure down below in my abdomen. Anna was squeezing it, and she knew what she was doing. She studied the human body to learn what happens next.
Anna was still hugging me and kissing me passionately. She secured the position on top of me, still acting like a dominant female. "Tell me the truth now. What are your feelings toward me?" Anna asked; she was breathing hard from all that making out with me.
The words slipped out of my mouth, and it was too late to stop them.
"I. . .love. . .you. . .Anna," I said.
Anna looked down at me and said, "I love you very much, Logan," she didn't hesitate to kiss me a split second after. She moaned a lot, and Anna occasionally teased me with her tongue inside my throat and on my lips.
"What a good little human," Anna said. She lifted herself one more time, and she looked flirtily at me again. "Now. . .let's see if that interspecies anatomy works,"
Anna shoved herself into me, and I felt intense pleasure coursing through me. "Anna, I-"
Anna covered my mouth, continued humping away, moaning loudly, and nearly roared a couple of times. "Aww, did you give away you're daily limit, little human? Don't stop now. We have all night to explore each other,"
Anna was breathing hard now, knowing she had just made out with a human, she finished, and Anna kissed me firmly a few more times before Anna completely stopped, but she was still on top of me.
"What do you think, little human? Do you think you could keep going?" Anna smirked, and she massaged my thighs as I felt dizzy.
"What do you think of interspecies relationships?" she asked me.
"I-"
"You said earlier, Logan, that you felt like we could be more. Now here we are," Anna kissed me again. "I don't know how marriage...works in your world, but in mine, we tend to do things quickly around here,"
Anna kissed me deeply again, squeezing my abdomen with her tail.
"You are an adorable human. It's no wonder Adine told me you once went on a date with her on the beach. She told me she had a fun time kissing you,"
I remembered that day on the beach, Adine was having a rough day, so I suggested we go out together, and it turned out to be a night of Adine kissing me on the cheek over and over. I was afraid I'd be kissed on the lips, and then that honor went to Anna instead, where she passionately kissed me on the mouth and did something much more to me than any dragoness ever could.
"Well, your only options are to be alone or with someone like me," Anna said. She pressed her lips against my forehead and explained she was happy I ended up staying here with the dragons forever.
"I hope I can ask someone if you could be my lab assistant. After all, I need one," Anna said.
I smiled at her, "Of course, anything for you, Anna," I answered.
Anna smiled back at me, and she drifted off to the side, where I slept with no clothes on. "And don't forget, we'll go to the cafe to see Adine tomorrow," Anna said.
"I love you, Logan," Anna added.
Upon Anna saying that she concluded a long day and four bitter months of fighting nonstop for an ending such as this one, our lives together were about to begin.
"I love you too, Anna," I answered.
"Goodnight," she replied. "Sweet dreams,"
