I've finished the maquette for my upcoming steampunk Boba Fett costume. The helmet is 2.5 inches tall and I made it from No. 2 Roma Plastilina.The actual helmet will have an antennae, though I couldn't find anything of suitable size for the miniature. It's basically a simple sketch, so I could plan out how I want it to look. The stripes on the side will be riveted brass plates, and the horizontal cylinders on the other side are going to be vacuum tubes.
Ignore the coat he is wearing. I needed a small head to sculpt onto, so I found a miniature bust of Thomas Jefferson and carved his wig off. I think ol' Tom's coat looks pretty good with the helmet, incidentally, but I have a different concept in mind. You'll see, once I start sketching out the rest of it. ^_Q

No matter how well molded, casted or painted the piece rises or falls on good sculpture, and this is a great one.

Awesome job, and I love it, but the two circular eye holes make it unlike the original helmet, a letterbox shaped visor would have worked alot better...

I debated that long and hard. I went with the round lenses since a tinted glass t-visor is decidedly futuristic and not Victorian at all. I wanted it to be more original than simply Boba Fett with a different color scheme and be as faithful as possible to the steampunk genre. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. ^_^

Hey Danny, I would actually recommend going with classic chinese military goggles because they keep the iconic horizontal slit of the fett mask. Just wondering how well this would keep the iconic specific lines. Good job though.

I've seen the picture this is based off of. Just yesterday actually.
I don't think it looks much like Boba Fett.
Although your one has more of a resemblance.
Especially once you add a stalk to it.
I think it's the "eyes" that ruin it. Boba Fett's signature t-visor needs to be there.

I spent quite a long time deliberating that very topic. Since I was keeping the overall shape of the helmet and the coloration, I felt it would be too similar to the original if I kept the t-visor as well.
Additionally, I didn't think that it looked very Victorian with the t-visor. It's a very futuristic space age looking feature. The only way I could rationalize it was if it were just a t-shaped hole like you see on medieval helmets, but I felt like being able to see my face through it would be even less in keeping with the spirit of Fett's helmet.
Once I get it finished, painted, and on top of the rest of the suit, there will be no mistaking that it's Boba Fett.

Love the shape..accentuates the skull. And the touches of scrollwork dress it up nice.
