Description Ring-Tailed Lemur (Katta) - Apenheul (The Netherlands)

Easily one of my favorite animals at Apenheul Zoo.
I'm guessing those lemurs are getting real tired of us humans constantly asking them to "move it, move it".

I envy their tails!
They look so warm and soft and cuddly

Zijn ze niet super?
En ik zou soms best een staart willen hebben. Zeker zo'n mooie als deze

Wow, what a stunning picture. It seems like the Katta waited just for you to take this picture!
And it's a really beautiful and cute exemplar! Is this "Apenheul"-park recommendable all in all?

Is it possible, that there is a little color fog? It seems like there a some light purple points...

Thank you :3
I'm glad you like the picture.

You're in Germany, right?
If you like monkeys I think it's definitely worth a trip.

Best part about Apenheul is that there aren't any cages with the smaller monkeys.
So you can really interact with the animals, which is awesome.

The squirrel monkeys even sit on your shoulders and check your pockets for food

And I think you're seeing the noise. I had to quickly take this image before he moved, so I chose a programmed camera setting and went for it, hence the 1600 iso

Yes, I'm from Germany and after your explanations I'm sure I'll go to Apenheul someday! It sounds like you can make great experience and take great pictures there. Here are some zoos in which Kattas or squirrel monkeys life in enclosures you can walk through, but I guess in Apenheul thats much bigger...

Yes, there's a forest for the squirrel monkeys, where 140 of them roam freely and interact with the visitors. I have a picture where a squirrel monkey sits on top of my 400mm lens

And the 20 Katta's have a special Madagascar section that they share with Vari's and Red-bellied lemurs. I had the pleasure of experiencing how a Red Vari sat on my lap and started licking the salt of my hands. You kind of tend to hold your breath when something like that happens.

Wow, that sounds cool! I'll really have to go there next year! I think it'll be a special experience to get in such close contact with the animals and it sounds like you can take extraordinary pictures there.

This lemur for some reason, is especially cute! I think its the eyes. Well done, these can be difficult to photograph. They are always moving around, but you captured him wonderfully.

Thenk you! :3

I had to take the picture quickly, so I did not have much time choosing a good setting, hence the 1600 ISO
I'm glad you like the image!

These are hands down the most beautiful creatures who walk this earth. And altough they are great models and will strike the best poses in front of camera lens, they tend to do it for those who choose a spot alongside their habitat and quietly, patiently wait there. (A technique not followed by 99% of their visitors.)

Being able to get a picture like this asks for either an incredible batch of luck or a great deal of patience and respect for these furry fuzzy creatures.

On two seperate occasions at this very zoo, a Red Vari (a cousin of Mr. Katta here) picked me out to settle in my lap and lick the salt off my handpalms. I've known since then I would never win the lottery as - gladly and gratefully - 99.99% of my luck was used up during those moments.

Thank you

No blue-eyes Maki's this time

En het was zo belachelijk druk dat ik bijna niet op een normale manier foto's kon maken
Bente en oma die me steeds vroegen "gaan we verder?" was weer een reminder waarom ik eigenlijk altijd alleen naar de dierentuin ga

LOL@blue-eyed Maki's. That one was a dormant memory, so thank you so much for waking it up.

Aren't they the cutest ever?
And they walk around freely amongst the visitors.
They love to lick the salt from your hands. It's really cute.

And i think it's a girl, because she looked mighty pregnant

Apenheul had 4 baby lemurs this year. They are amazing.

The lemurs have their seperate Madagascar section.
They share it with Red Varis, black and white Varis, and red-bellied lemurs.

It's a great part of Apenheul, because they all wander around free and can interact with the visitors.

This is the (English) website: [link]
It's a zoo solely for primates.

Ahhhh, very cool zoo! My fave would of course, be the lemurs. I'm not a huge fan of monkeys for some reason, but I do like the lemurs. Gorillas are awesome too.

I'm with you on that. I'm not a big fan of monkeys either.
I do like the little ones though; the tamarins and squirrel monkeys.
They are awfully cute

They have gorilla's too, but I didn't saw the silverback.
He would have been awesome to photograph.
