That is actually an AMC Matador Coupe (1974 - 1977).

There was an ugly 4 door sedan model and stationwagon going by the same model name as well but that version had a huge ugly front grill and squared off rear deck area.

The one in your image is probably the best looking one I have ever seen off the track

Yeah, it really is something! I have to say, it's one of my favorite cars now. I had never seen anything like it before, this one certainly has a unique flair.

When they first came out everyone wasn't sure what exactly they were

Honestly when we first saw them we thought they were ugly as hell... then someone took one and tricked it out for the drag strip and wow what a cool looking car that was

Just taking the clunky front bumper off makes a world of difference in how it looks which is why you image of the car looks super cool cause they took the ugly bumper off

Mind you... I owned one of their even uglier vehicles called the gremlin   Joke was a gremlin was just a rollar skate without the other skate

Haha I also really like the color scheme on this one - it's definitely unique!

The use of copper colored parts really set it off fantastically, though the rear side window reminds me of what used to be called opera windows on fancier cars

It's an AMC Javelin. Early/mid '70s, but not sure which year.

AMC Matador with a custom 1955-'57 Thunderbird Portal window?

That looks like it, essentially! I really like the looks of this car, I'm surprised it didn't take off more. Even the one in the add which isn't as souped-up is really cool. Thank you for enlightening me!

Whoa... if I didn't know better, I'd say it was a custom '75 AMC Hornet... sharp!

Thank you! I've never seen a car like it (though I don't really go to shows-i got lucky because the check-in was where I was staying at college). I think it's one of my favorite cars, idk...it's just really...unique and cool, it's got a different style.

You're welcome - I agree it's definitely a "souped-up" version of the original, to say the least   It's cool that you got lucky to have the show right where you're going to school!

Haha yes! I was walking back and there were a lot of classic cars and trucks in part of the parking lot. I don't think the actual show was held there, but they were checking in for the show were I was staying. But lucky regardless!
