and sorry but i prefer Shadowbanes' lighting and coloring than the official one...

yes - i copied alot when i young as well for practice. (sailormoon was my poison at the time)
but i did not post them online and claim that the lineart & coloring was mine. (granted this one really looks like a trace, just overlap it with the original)

shadowbane's lighting and coloring are extremely close to the values of the original, the tones are changed. (like the cast shadow on the face)

I'm not saying they should stop copying/tracing. but if you copy/trace, you cannot claim it as your own (unless they have expressed consent from the original artist...but even then i would never feel right claiming an art piece was my own when i had traced it from someone else). And as this artist grows and matures, its better to have the right set of ethics earlier than later. Especially if they one day decide to sell commerically.

"The lighting and coloring are extremly close"... well, you are a professional artist right? maybe it's easy to change the angle of illumination for you but not for everyone. maybe he just learns how to use shadows to express the lighting... according to coloring: i can't see the similarity. Sorry.

And i think, if one day he'll going to be a professioner drawer/designer i don't care what, he'll remove the previos replicas from his acc. DeviantArt isn't just for professional artist, so i'm not happy to hear if someone wants to limit the rights of the users...

He gaves the credit (even if he forgot about Obata, but i'm sure he'll correct this soon).

I keep my feeling that your comment is malicious and unnecessary. (Shadowbane is not nor my friend nor my familiar, and please, write his name with capital letter! It's his name!)

clearly you and i can agree to disagree - im sure further debating wont bring either of us closer to the others' point.

in conclusion:
im not limiting his rights.
he can copy/trace all he wants.
if he posts it in his gallery, as his own art, he just needs to credit the original artwork. or maybe add comments like "i traced this image here [link]!" or "i copied this image [link]!" and not claim the artwork as his own.

Just one another point of view: if you want to help with your chritism: next time if you want to help to clear rights and rules, please send by message to the owner and don't be so unfair to put it on his/her wall... it's disgusting and it reaches exactly the opposite effect.
Even if i agree with the rights of the original artworks, i can't agree with your style.
