Description This is the Aigulle Vert (dome covered in snow) and the Petit Dru (tall triangular peak) at Sunset. Both live in Chamonix, France. The aiguille vert is one of the most dangerous mountains to climb in Chamonix, it claims many lives each year however both remain truly breathtaking. The picture is referenced kindly from Tomas Meson (Flickr) and can be seen here : [link]

It is Oil on Canvas (40cm x 70cm) done using a palette knife.

yeah i'm all over the place. a lot of my stuff is acrylics and ink with paper cut outs mixed in,and some is digital but recently i did some en plein air work and i really liked working with oils and knives, so i'm just starting to get a feel for it.

cool. I really like the feel of the kind of runny paint and ink. I think it looks fab. Keep at it!

Wow, at first I thought this was a 3D model of the mountains. Fantastic sense of the rock layers. They also look kind of like slabs of jasper that you see around here. And the snow just couldn't be better. Fantastic feel to this.

Thank you. I was getting bored of white snow, blue sky so I thought I'd try a range at sunset. The sun really sets these mountains on fire and makes the snow look a pinky orange. I enjoyed painting this.

I REALLY like the colours! It almost looks like a photo because the texture of the paint gives the mountains a "rocky" looks about them. Simply breathtaking!

Thanks. Working with knives has really allowed me to explore textures with paint. It starts to stand off the canvass and become 3D.

Love how the paint texture really sells the rock surface too,

I am LOVING palette knives. They give such amazing texture. Smooth smoothie-ness for skies and snow and real rough rocky ridges. When I paint the snow on after the mountains have dried, the white sticks to the ridges of paint, sort of how snow sticks to rocks, so you get a similar pattern. Its very cool. Still on a heck of a learning curve though.
